Oregon girls soccer finishes #1 in the country

On the heels of a WIAA Division 2 state championship over the weekend, the Oregon girls soccer team finished number one in the country in the final United Soccer Coaches rankings published earlier today.

The Panthers occupied the top spot last week as well, and capped an unbeaten 2022 season with a 1-0 victory over defending champion Whitefish Bay in the D2 championship contest on Saturday at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee. Katelyn Studebaker scored the only goal of the match, putting back a Lily Eisele shot at the 62:44 mark.

Oregon finished the season 23-0-1 overall, with the lone blemish a 2-2 tie against Verona late in the year. The Panthers claimed the title in the Badger-West Conference along the way.

The last Wisconsin team to finish number one in the country was the 2000 Catholic Memorial squad that defeating DSHA 3-0 in the final D1 WISAA Soccer Tournament.
