Jefferson junior Payton Schmidt has been selected as the Hometown Ticketing
Athlete of the Week for the week of August 15-21 after a statewide vote on WisSports.net.
There were 4,438 total votes this week. Schmidt topped all vote getters with 1,770 votes. Reedsburg's Ashleigh Johnson came in second with 1,493 votes.
Schmidt finished at the top of the standings at the first Rock Valley mini-meet this past week, setting the tone for her junior season. She shot a 37 at the Alpine Valley Golf Resort, finishing six strokes ahead of second place. Schmidt also competed at the Balance and Believe Invitational at Blackhawk Golf Course in Madison and finished third. Her score of 79, was just three strokes behind the top place finisher.
Schmidt continued her winning ways earlier this week. She took home another top finish at a Rock Valley Mini-Meet at the Edgerton Meet at Towne Country Club. She shot a 39, seven strokes ahead of second place. Schmidt also tied for medalist honors at the third Rock Valley Mini-Meet at Lake Mills on Tuesday.
