We asked, you voted, and Tomahawk at Crandon has been selected as the Kwik Trip and Wisconsin Dairy Game of the Week for Week 4 of the high school football season. A total of 6,026 votes were cast, as this one received 2,219 of those votes.

The Kwik Trip & Wisconsin Dairy Game of the Week allows you, the fans, to pick what you feel is the biggest high school football game in the state each week. Not only will that game get featured on WisSports.net, but WSN General Manager Travis Wilson will make it his destination that week, with updates, photos, videos, and stories from the big game.

And of course, no trip to a big game in Wisconsin would be complete without a stop or two at Kwik Trip and a chocolate milk!!

Perhaps a surprising big game early in the Northwoods Conference, as we had pegged Crandon fourth and Tomahawk sixth in our preseason conference preview. Both teams have earned an opportunity to be featured, however, as Crandon is 2-1 with a close loss to Hurley to go with wins over larger Merrill and Clintonville. Tomahawk also beat larger Great Northern teams Rhinelander and Lakeland in non-conference before taking down Northland Pines last week.

"We knew coming into the season that we had a group of kids that could get off to a good start," said Tomahawk head coach Sam hernandez. "However, we also knew our schedule was going to test our team early. Playing non-conference games against Rhinelander & Lakeland provided us with two quality tests right off the jump and I was very pleased with our performances in both games."

Similarly, Crandon coach Dan Witman is pleased with how his team has started 2022.

"I am happy with the way my team is progressing," he said. "In my third year as head coach here in Crandon, we finally have a senior-dominated team. These guys have played a lot of varsity football over the past three years and have continued to progress. We have continued to improve every week and are running our offense faster and more efficiently every week."

Both coaches are looking to keep their squads on the correct path and not get consumed with some early success.

"We continue to preach having a short memory and to enter each week with a 1-0 mentality, which will be incredibly important again this week," said Hernandez.

Witman added, "We are going to control what we can. As long as we can play a clean game and not have penalties to put us behind the chains we plan on controlling the game up front. We need to have long drives and finish them off."

Both look forward to being able to show out on behalf of the teams from the northern part of the state, and the Northwoods Conference.

"We are excited to represent the Northwoods conference," said Witman. "I spent many years coaching in the Wisconsin Valley and Great Northern Conferences. While the teams may not have the numbers and depth of some of those great teams, this conference is very talented and plays a hard-nosed brand of football. We need to strap them up tight and get ready for battle when playing in the Northwoods."

Hernandez added, "Coach Witman, his staff, and the entire Crandon program is a class act in Northern Wisconsin and while the Northwoods Football Conference is in its third year of existence this has turned into a natural rivalry between the two programs."
