Erik Schmidt of Marquette has been selected as the Week 6 Jolly Good Football Player of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. His big day helped the Hilltoppers knock off first place Sussex Hamilton in the Greater Metro. He was chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 6. A total of 7,336 votes were cast, as Schmidt's 2,526 were enough to edge out second place Jerzy Brocker of Shawano, who tallied 2,441 votes.

Marquette forced some chaos atop the Greater Metro Conference with a comeback 24-21 win over Sussex Hamilton on Friday, as there are now five teams, including both Marquette and Sussex Hamilton, that are tied at 3-1 in league play. Marquette trailed 21-14 at halftime, and it stayed that way until just over five minutes left in the game when the Hilltoppers tied things up. Marquette would win the game on a 51-yard field goal by Erik Schmidt as time expired. In addition to his 51-yard field goal, Schmidt also made all three extra point attempts.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite player can be named Jolly Good Football Player of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 7 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
