Level 1 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Appleton North Lightning

Appleton North made the long trip across the state to take on third-seeded Chippewa Falls, and the sixth-seeded Lightning left with a 13-0 shutout win to advance to the next round of the Division 1 playoffs. Caden Popp booted a pair of field goals, from 48 yards and 34 yards out, while Jeremy Nelson pushed home a three-yard touchdown with under a minute remaining to seal things. The Lightning defense allowed just 122 yards.

Badger Badgers

Badger was the champion of the Southern Lakes Conference and a three-seed in Division 1, but much of the conversation this week surrounded the seeding controversy that gave Oak Creek a six-seed, behind not only Badger but also Franklin and Racine Horlick. Badger proved the better team on Friday, rallying from a 14-7 halftime deficit to win 21-14, as Landon Nottestad scored the game-winning touchdown with 6:33 remaining in the game.

Bonduel Bears

Bonduel scored the biggest upset by seed in Level 1 of the Division 6 playoffs, as the sixth-seeded Bears went on the road to defeat third-seeded Crivitz 22-7. Bonduel was out-gained in the contest but made the plays when they needed to in order to get the win. Louis Hrabik ran for 122 yards and two touchdowns in the victory, while Noah Weier hit Josiah Basten for the other touchdown.

Chilton Tigers

Chilton won a surprisingly low-scoring affair with Clintonville 7-6 on Friday. The fifth-seeded Tigers held the powerful Clintonville passing attack in check, as Kade Rosenow completed just 10-of-22 passes for 119 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. The Clintonville quarterback had finished the regular season second in the entire state in passing yards and touchdowns. Meanwhile, Chilton's Jared Gehl ran for 129 yards on 21 carries to help the Tigers control the clock.

Marquette Hilltoppers

In the lowest-scoring game you'll find all year, Marquette downed Verona 3-0 in a Division 1 contest, with Erik Schmidt booting a 25-yard field goal just before halftime for the only points of the game. It was certainly a defensive battle, with seventh-seeded Marquette limiting second-seeded Verona to just 49 rushing yards and 68 passing yards in the game.
