MEN’S BASKETBALL

Miles Barnstable, Freshman (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove), Guard of UW-Whitewater 

Barnstable helped UW-Whitewater to three wins during the week to open the 2022-23 season. In UW-Whitewater’s 95-90 win at Augustana University (Ill.) in the season opener, Barnstable scored 27 points, bolstered by a 15 of 16 performance at the free throw line. Over the weekend, he was named the Most Valuable Player at the Ron Linhart Memorial Classic hosted by Heidelberg University (Ohio) after leading UW-Whitewater to a 78-67 win over the host institution and an 86-74 victory over Pitt-Bradford. Barnstable scored 21 points, including going 10 of 10 from the charity stripe in the first game of the tournament and followed with a 29-point performance that included hitting 6 of 8 from beyond the arc against PSU-Bradford. For the week, Barnstable shot a blistering .731 (19 of 26) from the floor, .750 (9 of 12) from three-point range, and .968 (30 of 31) from the free-throw line. He averaged 25.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per outing.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL 

Jessie Ruden, Senior (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall), Guard of UW-Eau Claire 

Ruden opened the season by pouring in 30 points and distributing nine assists in a 94-83 victory over Wartburg College (Iowa) — an NCAA Tournament qualifier last year. She made 10 of 15 field goals, including a 6-for-9 mark from 3-point range. A day later, she helped the Blugolds to a 55-52 comeback win over Bethel University (Minn.). Ruden scored seven points, grabbed six rebounds and had three assists against the Royals. Defensively, she made a pair of crucial steals in the final minute of the game to seal the victory for the Blugolds. She finished the game with four steals.
