MEN’S BASKETBALL

Austin Westra, Senior (DeForest, Wis./DeForest), Forward of UW-La Crosse 

Westra was named the Wartburg College (Iowa) Buzz Levick Tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in two UW-La Crosse victories. He finished with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists in the Eagles' 66-48 win over Cornell College (Iowa) on Nov. 18, going 7 of 12 from the field, including 1 of 2 from three-point range, and 1 of 2 at the free throw line. Westra had 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists in UW-La Crosse's 87-76 tournament title game win over host Wartburg on Nov. 19. The 20 points established a career high. He was 7 of 11 from the field, including 1 of 2 from three-point range, and 5 of 6 at the line.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL 

Kayce Vaile, Junior (Greendale, Wis./Greendale), Forward of UW-Oshkosh 

Starting in three wins for the No. 22/18-ranked Titans during the week, Vaile averaged 13.0 points per game, shooting 44.0 percent from the field and recorded 11.7 rebounds per game. Against Edgewood College (Wis.) in the home opener, she posted six points, three rebounds, and two steals for the Titans. At the Augustana College (Ill.) Tournament, Vaile recorded back-to-back double-doubles, bringing her total to three for the season. On Nov. 18 against DePauw University (Ind.), she recorded 20 rebounds and scored 20 points, shooting 8 of 17 from the field, including 2 of 4 from the three-point arch and 2 of 3 from the free throw line. Her 20 rebounds (five offensive) were the most by a Titan since Kay Mikolajczak pulled down 20 at UW-Stout in an 87-80 win on Feb. 1, 2003. Vaile followed that performance with her third double-double of the season, recording 12 rebounds (six offensive) and 13 points against Augustana College (Ill.) on Nov. 19. She went 5 of 12 from the field, including 1 of 5 from three and 2 of 4 from the line. Vaile was named the MVP of the Augustana College Tournament.
