Reedsburg junior Sydney Cherney has been selected as the Hometown Ticketing Athlete of the Week for the week of January 9-15 after a statewide vote on WisSports.net.
There were 10,471 total votes this week. Cherney topped all vote getters with 4.562 votes. Darlington's Carver Fitzsimons came in second with 4,333 votes.
Cherney is one of the top scorers in the state this season in girls basketball and this past week she improved upon that standing even more. First in a 70-37 win over Richland Center, the junior guard scored a game high 39 points. She followed that up with 28 points in a tight 54-50 win over Sauk Prairie. Cherny saved her best performance for last at the Badger Challenge on Saturday. In a 67-54 win over Monona Grove, Cherney scored a program record 50 points while going 20 of 27 from the free throw line.
The sensational junior continued her scoring ways this week by pouring in 30 and 28 points in victories over Mount Horeb and Monroe.
