D4 Semi-Final Notes: Aquinas and Laconia cruise to victories

The Aquinas Blugolds will try to add another gold ball to their trophy case on Saturday after cruising to a 79-55 win over Mishicot in a Division 4 state semifinal. 

The Blugolds led 37-20 at halftime and led by as many as 33 points in the victory. 

Senior Autumn Passehl, a 5-7 guard, scored a game-high 24 points for Aquinas. She shot 8-for-10 from the floor and 6-for-7 from 3-point land. 

Senior point guard Macy Donarski, a 5-8 University of Montana recruit, finished with 21 points, four rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and two blocks. 

Freshman Samantha Davis, a 5-10 wing, added 12 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals for coach Dave Donarski and the Blugolds. 

Mishicot was led by 6-0 senior Kailey Tulachka, a UW-Eau Claire commit, who tallied 14 points and eight rebounds for coach Mike Garceau and the Indians. 

Aquinas will face Laconia in the Division 4 state championship game on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. 

The Blugolds have reached the WIAA state championship game in each of their six state tournament appearances (one title game was canceled due to COVID-19), taking home two state titles. 

The Laconia Spartans are headed to the Division 4 state championship game for the second consecutive season. 

The Spartans defeated Colfax 58-35 in a state semifinal. 

Sophomore Tierney Madigan, a 5-10 guard, scored a game-high 19 points, shooting 7-for-12 from the floor and making two of three from behind the arc. 

Sophomore Molly Duel, a 5-7 guard, contributed 13 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Sophomores Eve Engel (5-10) and Aubrey Leonard (5-8) also played key roles, scoring nine and six points, respectively for coach Chris Morgan and the Spartans. Leonard also led them with six assists. 

Colfax was led by junior McKenna Shipman, a 5-7 guard, who finished with 17 points for coach Courtney Sarauer and the Vikings. 

Laconia will play Aquinas in the Division 4 state championship game on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. The Spartans are looking for their first state title in program history.
