McDonell Central claims program's first state championship, beating Blair-Taylor in the Division 5 title game

The McDonell Central Macks are WIAA state champions for the first time in program history. 

The Macks led 27-23 at the break and led by as many as 18 points in the second half on their way to beating Blair-Taylor, 61-46, in the Division 5 state championship game. 

McDonell Central had four players in double figures, led by junior forward Aubrey Dorn (6-0) who finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. 

Senior Marley Hughes (5-11) and junior Emily Cooper (5-9) each finished with 14 points, while junior Isabel Hartman (5-6) added 10 points for coach Don Cooper and the Macks.

They shot 17-for-41 from the floor and made 23 of 28 from the charity stripe. 

Blair-Taylor was led by seniors Lindsay Steien (5-9) and Abby Thompson (5-6) who each netted 15 points for coach Jessie Lien and the Wildcats. 

They shot 20-for-51 from the floor. The Wildcats did not attempt a free throw in the game. 

McDonell Central (26-5) takes home the gold ball after falling in state semifinal games the previous two seasons.
