The Notre Dame Tritons made history on Saturday, becoming the sixth girls' basketball team in WIAA state history to complete a three-peat.

The Tritons defeated Pewaukee, 64-49, in the Division 2 state championship game, the second consecutive year the teams have met in the title game.

Notre Dame joins Beaver Dam (2017-19), Milwaukee Vincent (2007-09, Flambeau (2006-08), Cuba City (2005-07), and Milwaukee Washington (1994-96) as teams that have three consecutive WIAA state titles.

The Tritons led nearly the entire game, taking a 4-3 lead after a free throw by junior Sydney Whitehouse (5-7) and they would lead by as many as 15 points in the first half.

Pewaukee's only lead of the game was at the very beginning when junior Amy Terrian (5-8) knocked down a triple which was answered 21 seconds later by Notre Dame junior point guard Trista Fayta (5-7).

Notre Dame outscored Pewaukee 38-22 in the paint and only turned the ball over four times compared to the Pirates' 11 turnovers.

Four players finished in double figures for the Tritons, led by 6-0 junior Gracie Grzesk (Wisconsin recruit) who tallied 16 points on six of eight shooting and added seven rebounds and four assists.

Fayta, an Illinois State recruit, collected 13 points, four rebounds, and six assists, while Whitehouse and sophomore Peyton Musial (5-11) contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Whitehouse also added three assists and two steals, and Musial pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists.

Another key contributor for coach Sara Rohde and the Tritons was senior Hope Barington (5-9, UW-Oshkosh commit) who totaled nine points and four rebounds in the title game.

Notre Dame shot 23-for-37 from the floor, 4-for-8 on triples, and made 14 of 18 from the charity stripe to go along with 18 assists in the game.

The Tritons (29-1) finish the season with a 29-game winning streak.

Coach Rohde (259-63 career record) is now one of just four coaches in girls' basketball state history with at least five state titles, joining Jeff Pustina of Cuba City (9), Jim Myers of Barneveld (6), and Pam Kruse of Milwaukee Washington (5).

Notre Dame has an 86-3 record during the three-peat.

Pewaukee shot 18-for-46 from the floor, 6-for-18 from behind the arc, and made four of eight from the free throw line. The Pirates had assists on 11 of their baskets.

They were led in scoring by sophomore Anna Terrian (5-8) who netted 19 points, making three of eight from 3-point land.

Amy Terrian (5-8) finished with 12 points, four assists, and two steals for coach Jim Reuter and the Pirates.

Pewaukee finishes the year with a 28-2 record, ending the year as the Division 2 state runner-up for the second consecutive year.
