WBCA announces Division 1 Girls Basketball All-State Team

The 2023 Division 1 WBCA All-State Team is headlined by three-time first-team selections KK Arnold of Germantown, Grace Grocholski of Kettle Moraine, and Allie Ziebell of Neenah. 

Other repeat selections included Annika Pluemer of Brookfield East and Braelyn Torres of Kettle Moraine. 

Arnold, the 2023 Ms. Basketball award-winner, led Germantown to a 23-6 record and the program’s second state tournament appearance. The 5-10 point guard averaged 23.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 3.3 steals per game for coach Matt Stuve and the Warhawks. Arnold, a UConn signee, led the Warhawks to the Division 1 state title as a sophomore. She finishes her career with 2,458 points (6th all-time), 765 rebounds, 695 assists, and 415 steals, leading Germantown to a 97-15 record. KK was an honorable mention WBCA All-State pick as a freshman.  

Grocholski led Kettle Moraine to back-to-back Division 1 state titles. The 5-10 wing/forward averaged 24.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 2.8 steals per game for coach Todd Hansen and the 28-1 Lasers. Grocholski, a West Virginia signee, also connected on 80 three-pointers for the state champions. She ends her career with 2,294 points (13th all-time), 984 rebounds, 344 assists, and 231 steals, leading Kettle Moraine to a 91-18 record. Grace was an honorable mention WBCA All-State selection as a freshman. She was a finalist for Ms. Basketball. 

Ziebell has been all-state in each of her first three seasons. The 6-0 guard led Neenah to a sectional final appearance and a 26-2 overall record. Ziebell averaged 25.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game as a junior for coach Andy Braunel and the Rockets. Allie also knocked down 99 three-pointers (2nd most in the state). The UConn recruit will enter her senior year with career totals of 1,995 points, 598 rebounds, and 241 three-pointers made. Ziebell has led Neenah to a 63-15 record over the past three seasons. 

Pluemer helped lead Brookfield East to back-to-back state tournament appearances, including finishing as the state runner-up this season with a 27-3 record. The 5-9 guard averaged 16.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 3.4 steals per game to go along with connecting on 82 three-pointers for coach Tyler Saxton and the Spartans. The NCAA Division II Maryville University signee finished her career with 1,522 points and 211 three-pointers made for the Spartans which went 79-28 during Pluemer’s career. 

Torres helped lead Kettle Moraine to back-to-back state titles. The 5-8 guard averaged 15.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.5 steals, and 1.1 blocks per contest for coach Todd Hansen and the Lasers, finishing the year with a 28-1 overall record. Braelyn also connected on 76 three-pointers for the state champs. The NCAA Division II Northern Michigan University signee ends her high school career with 1,432 points, 453 rebounds, 370 steals, and 219 three-pointers made. Braelyn earned honorable mention WBCA All-State as a sophomore. The Lasers posted a 91-18 record during her four years. 

Sammi Beyer, who helped Appleton East finish as the state runner-up as a junior, averaged 17.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.6 steals per game for coach Darren Pitzner and the 11-14 Patriots in 2022-23. The 5-7 point guard also connected on 80 three-pointers this season. Beyer, an NCAA Division I University of St. Thomas MN signee, compiled 1,195 points with 221 three-pointers made in her career. Beyer received honorable mention WBCA All-State as a junior. 

MaKenzie Drout led Kimberly to a sectional final appearance this season. The 5-9 guard averaged 18.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.0 steals per contest for coach David Lepisto and the 16-12 Papermakers. Drout, an NCAA Division I Appalachian State University signee, compiled 1,399 points and  655 rebounds in her career. MaKenzie was named honorable mention WBCA All-State as a sophomore and junior. 

Shae Kelley helped lead Brookfield East to a state runner-up finish. The 5-10 point guard averaged 14.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 5.8 steals per game for coach Tyler Saxton and the 27-3 Spartans. Kelley, an NCAA Division I prospect, also connected on 47 three-pointers this season. Brookfield East has a 67-16 record during Shae’s first three seasons. Kelley will enter her senior year with 945 points, 416 rebounds, 308 assists, and 402 steals.  

Alexa Kinas led Kaukauna to a sectional semifinal appearance and a 19-8 overall record. The 5-8 point guard tallied 19.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.3 steals per game for coach Joe Russom and the Galloping Ghosts. Kinas, an NCAA Division I prospect, has compiled 1,159 points, 223 assists, and 205 steals through her first three seasons. 

Taylor Stremlow led Verona to a sectional semifinal appearance and a 24-3 overall record. The 5-10 point guard averaged 16.9 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists, and seven steals per game for coach Angie Murphy and the Wildcats. Stremlow, a University of Iowa recruit, helped lead Verona to a state tournament appearance as a freshman and earned honorable mention WBCA All-State. She missed her sophomore year due to a foot injury. 

Rainey Welson led Hortonville to a state tournament appearance and a 25-4 overall record. The 5-9 guard averaged 19.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.8 steals per contest for coach A.C. Clouthier and the Polar Bears. Welson, an NCAA Division I prospect, scored 41 points in a sectional final victory against Neenah. She was named honorable mention WBCA All-State as a freshman. Rainey will enter her junior year with 971 career points.
