WBCA announces Division 5 Girls Basketball All-State Team

The WBCA Division 5 All-State Team is headlined by two-time first-team selection Lindsay Steien of Blair-Taylor. 

Steien led Blair-Taylor (28-2) to a state runner-up finish in the program’s first-ever trip to state. The 5-9 point guard averaged 22.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 3.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game for coach Jesse Lien and the Wildcats. Steien compiled 2,407 points (8th all-time), 612 rebounds, 539 assists, and 352 steals in her career while leading Blair-Taylor to a 90-14 record.   

Reagan Borchardt led Edgar to a sectional final appearance and a 23-6 record. The 5-10 forward averaged 18.4 points, 12 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 3.0 blocks per contest for coach Tom McCarty and the Wildcats. Borchardt helped Edgar post a 56-24 record over her final three seasons. She earned honorable mention recognition last season. 

Emily Cooper helped lead McDonell Central (26-5) to the program’s first-ever state title. The 5-8 guard averaged 15.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 4.1 steals per game for coach Don Cooper and the Macks. Emily has helped McDonell Central to state tournament appearances in each of her first three seasons, the first three WIAA state trips in team history. She will enter her senior year with 886 career points, helping the Macks to a 63-13 record. Cooper was named honorable mention last season. 

Aubrey Dorn helped lead McDonell Central to the team’s first-ever state championship. The 6-0 forward averaged 14.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.9 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game for coach Don Cooper and the 26-5 Macks. Dorn has helped McDonell Central to a 51-9 record with two state tournaments in the past two seasons. 

Alana Durtschi helped lead Albany to the program’s first-ever state tournament appearance and a 28-1 record. The 5-7 guard averaged 14.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.7 steals per contest for coach Derik Doescher and the Comets. Durtschi has helped Albany to a 70-9 record in her three seasons. She will enter her senior year with 851 career points. 

Abby Hollis helped lead Albany (28-1)  to its first trip to state in program history. The 5-6 guard scored 17.1 points per game, connecting on 91 triples, and adding 3.0 assists and 2.6 steals per contest for coach Derik Doescher and the Comets. Hollis has helped Albany to a 51-6 record in her first two seasons. 

Marnie Kahl led Prairie Farm to a sectional final appearance and a 26-1 record. The 5-9 guard tallied 21.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 4.0 steals per game with 42 three-pointers made for coach and father, Dean Kahl, and the Panthers. Marnie compiled 1,730 points, 685 rebounds, 282 assists, and 359 steals in her career, helping lead Prairie Farm to an 84-14 record.  

Addison Lavicka helped lead Athens (23-4) to a regional final appearance. The guard averaged 15.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 3.2 steals per contest for coach Kyncaide Keefe and the Fighting Bluejays. Lavicka will enter her senior year with 934 career points; she has helped Athens to a 45-9 record the last two seasons. 

Bailey Rikkola led Sevastopol to a sectional appearance and a 25-2 record. The 5-6 guard tallied 16.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 4.4 steals per game for coach and father, Ben Rikkola, and the Pioneers. Bailey also made 48 three-pointers. She finished her career with 1,291 points, 452 rebounds, 267 assists, and 317 steals, leading Sevastopol to a 43-10 record in her final two seasons. 

Sarah Shaw helped Assumption finish the year with a 24-4 record. The 5-6 guard averaged 11.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.2 steals per game for coach Ryan Klein and the Royals which reached sectional play. Shaw helped Assumption finish as the state runner-up last season as a freshman. 

Abby Thompson helped lead Blair-Taylor to a 28-2 record and a state runner-up finish in the team’s first-ever trip to the state tournament. The 5-6 guard tallied 18.2 points per game with 79 three-pointers made to go along with 4.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 6.1 steals per contest for coach Jesse Lien and the Wildcats. Thompson finishes her career with 1,651 points, 514 assists, and 547 steals, helping Blair-Taylor to a 90-14 record.
