WBCA announces 2023 Division 4 Boys Basketball All-State Team

There are no repeat players from a year ago on the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-State team at the WIAA Division 4 level.

However, six players moved from the honorable mention list to the All-State squad, including Cal Fisher of Deerfield, Brady Larson of Fennimore, Max Lucey of Cuba City, Dawson Schmidt of Shiocton, Cole Uhlenbrauck of Saint Mary Catholic and Bo Vollrath of Fall Creek. 

Fisher (6-0) is a NCAA Division I baseball recruit for Florida State and also an outstanding basketball player. He led Deerfield to the Trailways South Conference title and a 22-4 record by averaging 24.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.8 steals. The Player of the Year in his conference, Fisher completed his four-year high school career with 1,729 points.

Larson (6-2) and Lucey (6-4) shared Player of the Year recognition in the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League. Larson averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.6 steals while helping Fennimore to a 16-10 record. He scored 1,378 career points. Lucey helped Cuba City to a 19-8 record by averaging 21.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists. Lucey finished his high school career with 1,166 points. 

Schmidt (6-4) helped Shiocton to the title in the Central Wisconsin North Conference and was named the league's Player of the Year. The NAIA recruit for Olivet Nazarene averaged 28.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists while helping the Chiefs to a 14-11 record. Schmidt scored 1,952 points during his four-year high school career.

Uhlenbrauck (6-6) helped Saint Mary Catholic to a 26-3 record and the second WIAA State Tournament appearance in school history by averaging 20.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists. The unanimous first-team all-Big East North Conference pick shot 44 percent from three-point range, making 95-of-217 tries from deep. The St. Norbert College recruit completes his high school career with 1,723 points.

The 6-foot-6 Vollrath was chosen as the Player of the Year in the Cloverbelt West Conference for the second straight season as he led Fall Creek to a 22-5 record. Vollrath averaged 22.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists. He enters his senior season with 1,366 career points.

Bangor senior Tanner Jones (6-0) led the Cardinals to a 14-0 record in the Scenic Bluffs Conference and was voted as the league's Player of the Year. Jones averaged 17.3 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 3.4 apg and 2.2 spg while helping Bangor to a 21.4 record.

Kenosha St. Joseph junior Eric Kenesie (6-0) had a strong season for the Lancers and became the talk of the state after scoring a WIAA State Tournament-record 51 points for the Lancers in their Division 4 state semifinal victory over Saint Mary Catholic. The first-team all-Metro Classic Conference performer averaged 22.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 3.2 steals while leading St. Joseph to a runner-up finish in the Division 4 state tournament. 

Cameron junior Tyson Lucas (6-1) earned a spot on the Heart O'North Conference all-league team for the second year in a row. He averaged 19.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.2 steals while playing a big role for a Cameron squad that went 22-6 and lost to Whitehall in a WIAA Division 4 sectional final. 

Senior Kodi Miller (6-0) was a key performer for Luther's WIAA Division 4 state-championship team. The quick and skilled backcourt ace averaged a team-best 17.3 points while also contributing 3.2 rpg, 3.8 apg and 2.0 spg. Miller scored 918 points in two varsity seasons at Luther.

Tanner Schumacher (6-1) led Howards Grove to the title in the Big East North Conference and was chosen as the Player of the Year in the league. The skilled and physical senior guard averaged 18.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists while helping the Tigers to a 23-3 record. Schumacher finished his high school career with 1,497 points.

Senior Isaiah Schwichtenberg (6-4) might have been the most valuable player for Luther's state-title team. He normally guarded the opponent's best perimeter player while also averaging 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.9 steals. The Wisconsin Lutheran College recruit is a four-year varsity performer for the Knights who finished his high school career with 1,111 points.

Junior Grant Warren (6-9) was selected as the Player of the Year in the Marawood South Conference after a huge season for the Red Raiders. He averaged 24.0 points, 13.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 3.3 blocks while leading Marathon to a 23-4 record and the league title.
