Brillion's Lorenz picked as state's top senior defender

Jeremy Lorenz of Brillion has been selected as the top senior Defender as part of the WSN Senior Basketball Awards.

Fresh from leading Brillion to a 29-1 record and the WIAA Division 3 state championship, Lorenz earned the award by ranking among the state leaders in blocked shots. He finished with 10 blocked shots in two games to set a Division 3 state-tournament record and averaged 2.2 blocks per outing for the Lions. 

In addition, Lorenz was dominant on the glass on offense and defense, averaging 11.6 rpg. He also averaged 21.4 points and 3.9 assists.

Lorenz will play college basketball at NCAA Division I Wofford and completed his four-year high school career with 1,992 points. 

Finalists for the award were Lorenz, Bennett Fried of La Crosse Central, Brett McConkey of West Salem, Isaiah Schwichtenberg of Luther and William Whorton of Milwaukee King. 

Past winners of the award include Luke Webb of Elmwood/Plum City (2022), Jayden Jackson of Whitefish Bay (2021), Keonte Jones of Madison East (2020), Lucas Stieber of Green Bay Southwest (2019), Jordan Dinsmore of Milwaukee Washington (2018), Chris Knight of Madison Memorial (2017), Kostas Antetokounmpo of Dominican (2016), Dwayne Lawhorn Jr. of Germantown (2015), Jordan Shea of Lodi (2014), Bronson Koenig of Aquinas (2013), and Zak Showalter of Germantown (2012).
