Westosha Central senior quarterback Brock Koeppel tied a state record with nine touchdown passes on Thursday night as the Falcons beat Wilmot 61-6. Playing just three quarters, Koeppel completed 12-of-14 passes for 354 yards, including seven touchdowns in the first half alone. He also ran for 33 yards on five carries for Westosha Central. His nine touchdown passes ties the record set by Wittenberg-Birnamwood's Ben Wesolowski in a 2021 game.
Rice Lake scored an important and impressive opening win in the first Middle Border Conference game of the year, beating D4 #8 Saint Croix Central 38-20. Jacob Kunz was a dual-threat all game long, completing seven-of-10 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns with nine carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He also averaged 36 yards on a pair of punts.
Howards Grove handed D6 third-ranked Cedar Grove-Belgium its first loss of the season in an exciting, low-scoring affair. The game was scoreless at halftime before Howards Grove got on the board in the third quarter, only for CGB to tie things up in the fourth. Tyler Rittenhouse went in from ten yards out in the fourth quarter to lift the Tigers to a 13-7 victory. He finished with 153 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries, adding five tackles and a forced fumble on defense.
Westby was impressive during the non-conference season but the Norsemen needed to prove they're ready to challenge at the top of the Coulee Conference. They got that chance against defending league champion and D3 runner-up West Salem. The Norsemen defeated West Salem 21-14, marking Westby's first win over the Panthers since 2004. Quarterback Blake Sutton was outstanding, completing nine-of-12 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns, with 104 yards and a score on the ground as well.
Stratford rebounded from a Week 2 loss to Edgar with an impressive 33-13 bounce back victory over Amherst, a team the Tigers had lost to in the 2022 regular season. Stratford quarterback Jack Tubbs had a big day, completing 6-of-10 passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns, adding 11 rushes for 101 yards and a score on the ground.
