Top returning receivers for 2024 football season

Practices are underway and the first games of the 2024 season are just a week away. We recently completed our Class of 2025 Football Player Rankings, featuring a top 15 at each position, others to watch, and a top 50 overall. We're also working on Conference Previews, which will be wrapped up soon.

Now, it is time to look at some of the top returning statistical leaders from the 2023 season. We'll begin our review with the top passers coming back this year. We'll continue our review with the top rushers coming back this year.

1. Madden Mahr, Stanley-Boyd

Mahr broke out in a big way in 2023, catching 54 passes for 1,158 yards and 14 touchdowns, as he averaged 21 yards per catch. Mahr was a First Team All-Conference, WFCA All-Region, and WFCA Honorable Mention All-State selection for the Orioles. Mahr recently gave a commitment to Minnesota State.

2. Ethan Feldner, University School

Feldner was one of the most productive receivers in the state last year, finishing third in receptions (81) and receiving yards (1,146), catching 10 touchdowns for the Wildcats in just nine games. In a loss to Lake Country Lutheran, he caught 17 passes, which is tied for 11th most in a single game in state history. He accounted for 187 yards in that one, a career high. He was named a WFCA Small School All-State choice.

3. Chris Kiel, Mount Horeb/Barneveld

Kiel first appeared on the varsity team for Mount Horeb/Barneveld as a freshman, and earned additional time in his sophomore campaign. He really broke out last year, catching 52 passes for 1,073 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging more than 20 yards per catch. He’s received offers from Northern Illinois, North Dakota State, and Dartmouth.

4. Boden Frosch, Sauk Prairie

Frosch found himself open time and time again last year, using his speed and top-level route-running to put up big numbers with teammate and friend Landon Schultz throwing him the ball. The First Team All-Conference pick caught 63 passes for 1,047 yards and 12 touchdowns in his junior campaign and could be in line for another big year as a senior.

5. Gavin Sell, Baldwin-Woodville

Sell is a versatile player who moves all over the place on defense. On offense, he was a significant playmaker, receiving First Team All-Conference with 49 catches for 982 yards and 11 scores, with another 200 yards on the ground. He was also recognized as a First Team All-Conference defensive back. Sell has committed to North Dakota State, where he’s expected to play linebacker.
