Week 1 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Arrowhead Warhawks

Arrowhead opened the 2024 campaign the same way they began last year, with an impressive win over Marquette. This time, the Hilltoppers entered as the defending state champs in Division 1, but Arrowhead's offense was too much. Vance Holtz threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns with three more scores on the ground, while a pair of running backs went for more than 100 yards on the ground, Jacob Siner and Hayden Russ. All told, the Warhawks rolled up 501 yards of offense in the game to secure a 47-28 victory.

Barron Golden Bears

Barron ended a 19-game losing streak that had dated to the 2021 season with an opening 27-16 win over Cameron on Friday night. The Golden Bears' last win was also over Cameron in October of 2021. It's especially impressive considering that the Comets had made a trip to Level 3 of the playoffs last season. Barron was able to turn the tide despite being out-gained 349-217.

Big Foot Chiefs

Big Foot entered 2024 with a 17-game losing streak but put that to bed quickly with an opening 7-6 win over Whitewater in Week 1. It was the first victory for new co-head coaches Collin Frederick and Tyler Heck. The only score for the Chiefs came via a 26-yard punt return by Brady Wojcik, as Chase Wilson booted home the extra point for what proved to be the game-winning point late in the third quarter. Josh Martinez ran for 130 yards in the victory.

Prescott Cardinals

Prescott finished well off the pace in the Middle Border Conference and the playoff race last season, but the Cardinals put everyone on notice they are a team to be reckoned with in 2024. Behind 17 returning starters, Prescott went on the road and scored a 42-8 win over Northwestern, our preseason number three team in Division 5. Teddy Bernick threw for 258 yards and four touchdowns, with Will Packard hauling in eight passes for 137 yards and three of those scores. The Cardinals defense limited Northwestern to just 162 total yards, picking off three passes.

West Bend West

West Bend West was impressive to open the 2024 season, putting a running clock on Sheboygan South in a 35-0 Week 1 in. It ended a 15-game losing streak that had dated to Labor Day weekend of 2022. The rushing attack was especially potent for the Spartans with 262 yards and four scores. Most of the damage was done by junior Noah Reinhart, who rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.
