The Apple Bowl returns as a conference game this year with Fox Valley Lutheran moving back into the Bay from the North Eastern. Both teams went unbeaten in non-conference play and are looking to get off to a hot start in league action. Xavier won last year's matchup 35-14.
Slinger has a couple impressive wins in the non-conference season, beating Menomonee Falls to begin the year before taking down defending D2 champion Badger on Friday. Hartford opened with a nice win over Waukesha West but was shutout by Germantown last week. These figure to be two of the better teams in a very competitive North Shore Conference this season.
It was a good start to the season for both these squads, who have developed quite the rivalry over the last couple decades. Hudson has gotten the best of Menomonie in recent years, winning four straight in the matchup, including the game last year when the Raiders claimed an outright Big Rivers Conference title.
These teams met in Week 9 last year with a guaranteed trip to the playoffs on the line. Lakeland got the win, though Rhinelander was able to sneak in via tiebreakers as well. This year, they've both scored wins over Ashland and Hayward to enter undefeated.
A matchup of the last two winners of the Division 4 state title, as 2023 winner Lodi will welcome in 2022 victor Columbus. Both had coaching changes in the off-season, with Kyle Mack replacing Dave Puls at Lodi while Andy Ryan takes over for Andrew Selgrad at Columbus. Both are unbeaten, with Columbus coming off a 20-16 win over three-time Division 5 champion Aquinas.
