Both teams are undefeated a third of the way through the season, as this is a big one early in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference schedule. Kiel was pegged as one of the favorites in the league with Two Rivers moving out, while Brillion finished just out of the playoffs a year ago.
The Cloverbelt Conference is as tough as ever this year, with three teams currently ranked in the top five of their respective divisions. Two of them meet up in this one, with D5 4th-ranked Stanley-Boyd traveling to Division 6 top-ranked Mondovi. Speaking of Mondovi, they're coming off an impressive 38-22 win in a replacement game over Winona, MN, a much larger school from across the river.
So many great matchups between these rivals in the last few years, including several times a second meeting in the playoffs. Mukwonago eliminated Muskego from the playoffs in both 2021 and 2022, though last season Muskego won the only matchup. Mukwonago went down last week to Arrowhead, but has to regroup quickly.
After an opening blowout loss to Prescott, Northwestern has rebounded with two straight wins to get back on track. Pegged as the two favorites in the Heart O'North this season, Northwestern and Saint Croix Falls will meet up with a chance to take early control of the league race.
Back-to-back impressive wins for Madison Memorial have the Spartans leaping into the upper echelon of Division 1. Memorial took down Waunakee two weeks ago and Middleton last week, and a third straight brutally tough road game awaits at two-time defending Big Eight champion Verona.
