Week 1 WisSports.net Football Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year.

Division 1

Kimberly remains a strong number one team in Division 1, as the Papermakers had no trouble with Fond du Lac last week. Muskego went down to rival Mukwonago, and it drops the Warriors from second all the way down to seventh this week. Verona is up to fourth, with Arrowhead and Mukwonago returning to the top five. The Classic Eight occupies spots four through seven in the rankings. Madison Memorial's loss to Verona slides the Spartans to eighth this week.

Division 2

Rice Lake remains atop Division 2, but another second ranked team slides after Germantown's defeat at the hands of Marquette, dropping the Warhawks to fifth this week. Slinger is up to second, with defending champion Badger now the third-ranked squad. Losses by DeForest, Racine Horlick, and River Falls in the bottom of the rankings cause those teams to drop out this week, as Homestead, Wauwatosa East, and Milton enter the poll.

Division 3

Notre Dame is a strong favorite in the coach voting for Week 4 once again. The top five also features Catholic Memorial, Grafton, Mount Horeb/Barneveld and Plymouth. Burlington moves into the poll for the first time, replacing Whitefish Bay.

Division 4

West Salem is the top-ranked Division 4 team once again, with the top other five of Columbus, Aquinas, Prescott, and Ellsworth the same. A second consecutive loss drops Xavier, formerly sixth, out of the rankings this week. Seymour has posted some impressive early wins and is ranked tenth this week. The Thunder already have victories over last year's D4 runner-up Luxemburg-Casco plus state quarterfinalists Two Rivers and Xavier.

Division 5

Wrightstown remains on top of the Division 5 Coaches Poll, with the top nine unchanged. That leaves Stratford, Saint Mary's Springs, Stanley-Boyd, and Kiel in the top five. Northwestern suffered a second defeat on the year, as Lancaster enters the rankings at number ten.

Division 6

Top-ranked Mondovi suffered its first loss of the year in a close one to Stanley-Boyd in the Kwik Trip & Wisconsin Dairy Game of the Week, as the Buffaloes drop to fourth this week. That allows another Cloverbelt Conference team, Regis, to ascend to the number one position. There were few changes elsewhere in the rankings.

Division 7

Not much change in Division 7, where the top five remains the same, led by Potosi/Cassville on top. Further down the rankings, River Ridge and Cambria-Friesland each suffered a second loss and fell out. That allows Palmya-Eagle and Johnson Creek to move in. Ithaca jumps a few spots to seventh after a win over Bangor.

8-Player

McDonell Central fell 58-27 to Owen-Withee on Friday, as the Macks drop out of the top spot in the poll, ending at number six this week. Owen-Withee jumps from fifth to first following the victory. Almond-Bancroft falls out, as the team the Eagles lost to, Port Edwards, comes in.
