Athlete of the Week Nominees: September 16-22

Owen Fiedler, Madison Memorial

Fiedler was on point from his quarterback position, leading the Madison Memorial football team to a 36-13 win over Madison West in Big Eight Conference action. The junior signal caller completed 21 of 35 passes for 434 yards and five touchdowns in the victory, accounting for all five scores by the Spartans on the night. Fiedler has Madison Memorial off to a 4-1 start overall and 2-1 start in the Big Eight conference with the only loss coming to undefeated Verona. In Friday's win, Fiedler completed 60% of his passes and recorded a 131.4 quarterback rating.

Samuel Jevne, Rice Lake

Jevne has been hard to score on this season for the Rice Lake boys soccer team. That continued last week as he pitched two shutouts from his goalkeeper position for the Warriors. In a 0-0 tie with Chippewa Falls, Jevne recorded 12 saves on the day, not allowing a single ball past him. The senior goalkeeper then pitched another shutout in a 2-0 win over Spooner/Shell Lake. On the season, Jevne has a 90.5% save percentage and has allowed just seven goals in 625 minutes of play.

McKenna Nelson, Beaver Dam

Nelson had an impressive week on the course this past week as she competed in three different events and came away with two first place finishes and a second place finish. The sophomore golfer began her week by shooting a 39 in the Badger Large Conference Mini-Meet at Oak Ridge Golf Course in Milton. She was one stroke off the first place finisher. Nelson then competed in the Portage Invitational at the Portage Country Club. She shot a 70 and won the event by an impressive ten strokes. Nelson finished her week off at the Watertown Invitational where she again won the event. Her score of 67 was good enough for 11 strokes better than the second place finisher and capped off a great week of golf.

Amber Otto, Oconto Falls

Otto was exceptional as Oconto Falls went 6-1 and secured a tournament title on Saturday. Tuesday, she had 13 digs, 11 kills, and 3 aces in a 3-0 sweep of Wrightstown, followed by 5 digs, 4 kills and 4 aces in a 3-0 sweep of Denmark. The Panthers then competed in the Red Raider Invite in Pulaski and went 4-1 to win the tournament. Falls started out with a 2-1 loss to West De Pere, but rattled off wins over Green Bay NEW Lutheran, Houghton and Pulaski to set up a rematch with West De Pere in the title match, where they swept the Phantoms to win the tournament crown. Otto was great throughout the five matches, amassing 55 kills, 23 digs, 7 aces, and 1 block.

Blake Zielinski, Kimberly

Zielinski was great from his setter position for the Kimberly boys volleyball squad, assisting his teammates all day Saturday en route to a tournament championship. Before the tournament, the junior setter had 42 assists, nine digs, two kills, and an ace in a 3-0 sweep of Kimberly on Tuesday. Zielinski then had 108 assists over six matches in the Dave Hash Invite at Kaukauna High School. The Papermakers swept all six matches, winning 2-0 over Appleton East, Wilmot, Kettle Moraine, Fond du Lac, Waukesha West, and Pewaukee en route to the first place finish.
