Arrowhead has taken down Mukwonago and Muskego already in the Classic Eight schedule, and this week take on unbeaten Oconomowoc, who is off to an impressive 5-0 start, but has a brutally tough three-game stretch coming up featuring Arrowhead, Mukwonago, and Muskego.
It has been a while since Oconomowoc was one of the focal points in the Classic Eight, which has been dominated by Arrowhead, Mukwonago, Muskego, and Kettle Moraine in recent years, with Waukesha West and even former member Catholic Memorial getting the bulk of the attention over the years.
The Raccoons haven't been to the playoffs since 2021 and haven't won a regular postseason contest since 2015.
Getting things turned around has been a process for head coach Sal Logue, with the efforts starting to pay off.
"I am really happy with our kids, especially our seniors with the leadership they have provided our program," said Logue. "I am pleased with the results, but moreso the vision and focus we have taken into each game so far."
There's a lot going on around Oconomowoc this week, but the focus has to be there for the Raccoons.
"I feel that with the level of competition we see on a weekly basis it is imperative that we take one game at a time," explained Logue. "Our mindset has not changed for this particular game. I would be lying if I said I did not feel an extra dose of energy throughout the week of practice as we are aware that we are playing a school that is eight miles down the road, with conference implications. If this was not enough it is our homecoming!"
Arrowhead is 3-0 in the Classic Eight and beat defending Division 1 state champion Marquette in the non-conference schedule, though the Warhawks did lose to old playoff rival Homestead in Week 2. It is a strong group of athletes that the Warhawks will be bringing into Oconomowoc this week.
"We have a ton of respect for the Arrowhead players and coaches," said Logue. "They are a top program with a ton of weapons on offense and a very sound, physical defense. We are aware that it will be a great challenge for us. It is huge for us to meet and exceed their intensity level."
