It was a close one Thursday night between Siren and Prairie Farm, though Siren was able to score a 36-34 victory. Gannen Reynolds completed 28-of-39 passes for 277 yards and three touchdowns, also rushing for a team-high 61 yards and a score. Joe D'Jock and Joe Wiltrout each had 18 tackles, combining for five sacks.
The big game last week was a top five showdown between Highland and North Crawford. The first half was scoreless, but Highland got a pair of third quarter scores and a fourth quarter field goal for a 16-6 victory.
In another top ten showdown, Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas took down Wausaukee 54-20 in a non-conference game. Calvin Peters ran for 214 yards and four touchdowns on just 20 carries, and also completed a pair of passes for 35 yards.
In Almond-Bancroft's 66-0 win over Menominee Indian, quarterback Emmitt Stiles threw seven touchdown passes, completing 14-of-19 for 307 yards. He also recorded a pair of interceptions on defense.
Newman Catholic beat Port Edwards 20-16 on Friday, forcing a four-way tie atop the Central Wisconsin-8 between those two plus Almond-Bancroft and Tri-County. Carson Rice had 278 total yards of offense and Everett Puent ran for 116 yards in the win.
On Thursday night, first place in the Northwoods-West is on the line as Northwood/Solon Springs and Shell Lake both enter at 5-0 in league play. Also Thursday, Highland welcomes in De Soto in the Ridge & Valley-8.
It's a non-conference game as both teams had holes in their schedule, but we get a good one featuring a matchup between top-ranked Owen-Withee and ninth-ranked Clayton.
Old Cloverbelt/Cloverwood/North Central-East foes McDonell Central and Thorp will meet up on Friday at Dorais Field in Chippewa Falls.
Phillips and Hurley are currently tied atop the Northwoods-East, but one of them will take a solo lead in the standings after Friday, as they'll meet up in Phillips.
While four teams enter tied for first in the Central Wisconsin-8, at least one of them will drop out, as Tri-County will travel to Newman Catholic on Saturday for a 1 pm kickoff.
Washburn senior RB/LB/K Sieanna Sandor had quite the game in last Thursday's 52-31 win over South Shore. She ran the ball five times for 48 yards with four touchdowns, had 11 solo tackles, six assists, and two forced fumbles on defense, plus blocked an extra point and accounted for a pair of two-point conversions. She also serves as the team's kicker. #wisfb
