Brandon Schaefer of West De Pere has been selected as the Week 8 Jolly Good Football Player of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. His big day helped the Phantoms score a thrilling win over Bay Port to inch closer to a league title. He was chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 8. A total of 7,485 votes were cast, as Schaefer's 2,566 were enough to edge out second place Malachi Mack of Wauwatosa East, who tallied 2,533 votes.
It was everything you want in a high school football game, as FRCC-North unbeatens Bay Port and West De Pere squared off for control of the league title. It was back-and-forth all night, but West De Pere would come out on top in a 45-43 win. After Bay Port scored to go ahead with just 26 seconds remaining, the Phantoms would march quickly down the field, setting up Brandon Schaefer for a 49-yard field goal, which he connected on as time expired for the game-winnner. Schaefer was also six-for-six on extra points in the game.
Remember folks, the only way your favorite player can be named Jolly Good Football Player of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 9 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
