Tanner Herman of Johnson Creek has been selected as the Week 9 Jolly Good Football Player of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. His big day helped the Bluejays claim an outright league championship. He was chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 9. A total of 6,941 votes were cast, as Herman's 2,794 were enough to edge out second place Landin Purifoy of Reedsburg, who tallied 2,636 votes.
Johnson Creek claimed an outright Trailways Conference title with a 43-42 win over Randolph, who was trying to score a share of the crown. Randolph jumped out 16-0 early and led 36-21 early in the fourth quarter. The Bluejays still trailed 42-40 after a touchdown with 1:35 left, but would get the ball back and drive down the field, setting up Tanner Herman for a game-winning 35-yard field goal with just two seconds remaining. Herman had a big game in all phases, completing 16-of-22 passes for 136 yards and a score, ran for 58 yards and a touchdown, and caught a pass for 16 yards on offense. Over on defense, he recorded six tackles. He also connected on four extra points in addition to the game-winning field goal.
Remember folks, the only way your favorite player can be named Jolly Good Football Player of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Level 1 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
