Winneconne junior Brody Schaffer has been selected as the Box Out Sports Athlete of the Week for the week of October 14-20 after a statewide vote on WisSports.net.
There were 3,288 total votes this week. Schaffer topped all vote getters with 1,032 votes. Elk Mound's Belle Kongshaug finished in second with 790 votes.
Schaffer led both the offense and defense as Winneconne knocked off Seymour, clinching an outright Bay Conference championship. The junior quarterback completed eight of fourteen passes for 80 yards but did most of his damage on the ground. Schaffer rushed the ball 15 times for 202 yards, averaging 13.5 yards per carry. He found the end zone four times, once in each quarter. Schaffer added seven tackles defensively as Winneconne finished the regular season 9-0.
Schaffer and Winneconne earned a one-seed in the WIAA playoffs and take on Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian on Friday.
