2024 Preview

Top Players

Kashton Allen, Oconomowoc (2025) Allen averaged 11.8 points and 3.9 rebounds last year as a junior starter with the Raccoons. The 6-3 guard is a steady and poised playmaker and uses those fundamentals and IQ to his advantage on the court.

Blake Basich, Arrowhead (2027) Basich saw extended action as a freshman on one of the top teams in the state and averaged 5.0 points per game while shooting 36% from deep. The younger brother of UW-Green Bay and just graduated Arrowhead alum Bennett Basich, Blake is poised for a break out sophomore season and an expanded role with one of the top teams in Division 1.

Ben Bestor, Kettle Moraine (2025) Bestor was a second team all-Classic Eight selection after averaging 9.5 points and 2.3 rebounds as a junior. One of the better shooters in the conference, the 6-0 guard does a great job of working his way open off the ball and has a quick release to get his shot off in tight spaces.

Tyler Evenson, Waukesha West (2025) Evenson is an explosive scorer returning to West after earning honorable mention all-conference honors as a sophomore. The 6-3 guard averaged 15.5 points and 1.3 assists per game last season and had games of 28 and 30 points in the playoffs. Evenson can score in a variety of ways from inside and out and has a crafty set of finishing skills.

Zach Froemming, Kettle Moraine (2025) Froemming averaged just 3.2 points per game last season but the Classic Eight coaches believe he's in store for a big leap as a senior. That has led to a fiery uptick in his recruiting process as he now has a handful of offers from NCAA Division III and NAIA schools including Ripon, St. Norbert, and Concordia-Wisconsin.

AJ Ohrmundt, Arrowhead (2025) Ohrmundt has length for days and is the only starter to return for this Arrowhead squad in 2024-25. He averaged 8.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game as a junior, earning honorable mention all-conference honors. Ohrmundt is one of the top shot blockers in the conference and a matchup nightmare for bigs as he can step out and hit the three (40% last season). Ohrmundt has received offers to play at NCAA Division III schools, UW-Oshkosh, Ripon, and Carroll.

Aiden Owusu-Asiedu, Waukesha West (2025) Owusu-Asiedu was an honorable mention all-Classic Eight selection last season and averaged 9.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. The 6-5 forward has length in droves and causes issues defensively in passing lanes and at the rim.

Yovani Perea, Waukesha South (2025) Perea was an honorable mention all-conference choice las season averaging 14.9 points per game. At 6-4 he has a soft shooting touch from the mid-range and three-point line and is comfortable in creating those shots via step back or turn around.

Evan Ploeckelman, Mukwonago (2027) Ploeckelman is an improving big man for the Indians after playing sparingly on varsity last season. At 6-5, his jump shot is improving as is his toolkit of finishes in and around the rim.

Caleb Poling, Mukwonago (2025) Poling was a second-team all-Classic Eight selection last season aver he averaged 15.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game; all which led Mukwonago. The 6-5 post player is most comfortable around the rim where he dominates with his footwork, but can step out and knock down a perimeter shot having made 33 three-point shots last season at a 39% made clip.

Peyton Pollnow, Mukwonago (2025) Pollnow was an honorable mention all-conference selection last year after averaging 10.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. He's one of the top shooters in the conference after knocking down 41% of his attempts.

Trey Resch, Arrowhead (2027) Resch also saw extended action for Arrowhead last season as a freshman, averaging 8.7 points per game and shooting a robust 41% from three. He'll expand his game beyond a three-point specialist over the next three seasons and is one of better prospects in the class of 2027.

Dustin Roach, Catholic Memorial (2027) Roach has a great feel for the game as just a sophomore and is skilled with the ball in his hands at winning one-on-ones. The 6-3 guard averaged 7.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game as a freshman and was an honorable mention all-conference choice last year.

Roman Thompson, Kettle Moraine (2025) Thompson is the lone first team all-league performer that returns to the Classic Eight in 2024-25. The 6-4 wing averaged 11.5 points as a junior for the State Tournament Lasers. Thompson's confidence has grown as his skillset has expanded and he can put up scoring in bunches from anywhere in the half court. He has a handful of offers including from Cleveland State (DI), UW-Whitewater (DIII), and Valley City State (NAIA).

Predicted Order of Finish

1. Kettle Moraine
2. Mukwonago
3. Arrowhead
4. Oconomowoc
5. Catholic Memorial
6. Muskego
7. Waukesha West
8. Waukesha South
9. Waukesha North

Newcomers:

Outlook: Kettle Moraine returns a deep senior class that contributed to back-to-back state tournament appearances. Roman Thompson and Ben Bestor will be the two lead guards for head coach Brian Richert that can control the game and score in bunches. Rising 2025 prospect Zach Froemming adds another high level scorer for the Lasers, a team that is deep with experience. This senior group will be a big reason why Kettle Moraine will be looking for its first conference title since the 2017-18 season.

2023-24 Freshman Record: 11-11
Assistant Coaches: Zach Schneider, George Johnson

Key Contributors Lost: None

Returning Players: Peyton Pollnow, 2025 (10.8 ppg); Josh Hayden, 2025 (9.7 ppg); Caleb Poling, 2025 (15.1 ppg); Jake Brunsch, 2025 (5.3 ppg); Jack Karrels, 2025 (5.7 ppg); Carson Greuel, 2026 (4.8 ppg); Luka Tess, 2026 (4.9 ppg); Tanner Buth, 2025 (2.5 ppg); Cayden Cullinane, 2025 (1.5 ppg)

Newcomers: Evan Ploeckelman, 2027

Outlook: Mukwonago returns everyone from last year's 11-win team including all five starters; Peyton Pollnow, Josh Hayden, Caleb Poling, Jake Brunsch, and Jack Karrels. A strong junior and senior groups give head coach Steve Pollnow depth throughout the roster. Good size at the guard position allows for versatility within the lineup. Sophomore Evan Ploeckelman had a great offseason and figures to push for significant minutes for a team that is a sleeper contender in all of Division 1.

Arrowhead

Head Coach: Craig Haase (26th year at Arrowhead)
Overall Record: 433-163
2023-24 Varsity Record: 27-3
2023-24 JV Record: 14-8
2023-24 Freshman Record: 20-2
Assistant Coaches: Dave Conway, Mark Leoni, Chris Klink, Doug Wrecke, Jim LaVoi

Key Contributors Lost: Bennett Basich (20.4 ppg), Jace Gilbert (17.6 ppg), Sam Leoni (10.2 ppg), Jay Haase (3.1 ppg)

Returning Players: AJ Ohrmundt, 2025 (8.1 ppg); Trey Resch, 2027 (8.7 ppg); Blake Basich, 2027 (5.0 ppg); Tristan Marvelli, 2025 (1.6 ppg); John Kubisch, 2025 (2.1 ppg)

Newcomers: Theo Teoppel, 2027; Brady Thimmesch, 2026; Wil Hamer, 2026; Dominic Rasberry, 2026; Kai Hamer, 2026

Outlook: Picking Arrowhead third in the conference after back-to-back state runner-ups and Craig Haase as head coach may be foolish, but by no means does it mean this team will not be competing for a Classic Eight championship. Despite losing four starters, there is plenty of talent back for the Warhawks. Senior AJ Ohrmundt is one of the better two way bigs in the conference and the lone returning starter. Sophomores Blake Basich and Trey Resch got a lot of experience as freshman and with another year of strength and improvement, are going to a handful in the league. Also, Tristan Marvelli gives Arrowhead the do-it-all energy guy that adds a lot of value while on the court.

Oconomowoc

Head Coach: Jay Benish (8th year at Oconomowoc)
Overall Record: 174-204 (86-84 at Oconomowoc)
2023-24 Varsity Record: 14-11
2023-24 JV Record: 14-8
2023-24 Freshman Record: 13-9
Assistant Coaches: Jon Fischer, Charlie Fischer, Greg Jefferies, Tim Porterfield, Tyler Enright, Ryan Kase, Bobby Janowiak

Key Contributors Lost: Lukas Hoffman (17.5 ppg), Trevor Mozejewski (11.6 ppg), Phillip Borgman (7.6 ppg)

Returning Players: Santino Conigliaro, 2025 (9.0 ppg); Kashton Allen, 2025 (11.8 ppg); Ben Jimenez, 2025 (5.3 ppg); Markus Duddeck, 2025 (1.9 ppg); Birch Gunja, 2025 (1.3 ppg); Ethan Scheltz, 2025; Colton Boldt, 2025

Newcomers: Tony Melaas, 2025; Noah Gricius, 2026; Trevor Hoffman, 2026; Josh Platter, 2026; Jack Pipp, 2026; Jonathan Seeger, 2026; Carson Rutka, 2026; Mason Medina, 2027

Outlook: Head coach Jay Benish will need to replace three starters from last year's squad, but does return a pair of wings that can score the ball in Santino Conigliaro and Kashton Allen. Allen (6-4), Ben Jimenez (6-3), Markus Duddeck (6-5), Birch Gunja (6-6) and Colton Boldte (6-7) give the Raccoons one of the bigger lineups in the conference and will be strength with regards to interior defense and rebounding.

Catholic Memorial

Head Coach: Kyle Johnsen (2nd year at Catholic Memorial)
Overall Record:
2023-24 Varsity Record:
12-14
2023-24 JV Record:
2023-24 Freshman Record:

Assistant Coaches:

Key Contributors Lost: Sean Ladwig (15.4 ppg), John Giricz (8.0 ppg)

Returning Players: Jake Berkholtz, 2025 (9.2 ppg); Jake Pfister, 2026 (7.7 ppg); Dustin Roach, 2027 (7.4 ppg); Evan Kaye, 2025 (3.4 ppg); Jackson Albee, 2027 (3.0 ppg)

Newcomers:

Outlook: Catholic Memorial loses two of its top scorers from last year's squad but return a great deal for head coach Kyle Johnsen in his second season. Down low Jake Berkholtz is a workhorse and has the strength and athleticism to match up with bigger bigs and smaller wings. Dustin Roach and Jake Pfister are the playmakers on the perimeter having averaged 10.1 and 7.7 points per game respectively. However, outside of Berkholtz there is a lack of size for the Crusaders, which may pose a problem with a few teams within the league.

Muskego

Head Coach: Kam Cerroni (4th year)
Overall Record: 44-31
2023-24 Varsity Record: 19-6
2023-24 JV Record: 17-5
2023-24 Freshman Record: 21-1
Assistant Coaches: Steve Liberto, Cal Krafcheck

Key Contributors Lost: Aiden Krause (13.2 ppg), Ashton Krause (10.2 ppg), Karter Seawright (13.5 ppg), Henry Westphal (3.8 ppg)

Returning Players: Devin Schroeder, 2025 (5.3 ppg); Jack Serkowski, 2025 (2.5 ppg); Luke Steinhoff, 2025 (1.4 ppg); Alex Mueller, 2025

Newcomers: Dominica Musolf, Brenden Larson

Outlook: Muskego loses its top four starters from last season's 19-win squad and that production may be tough to replace right away. Devin Schroeder is the lone returning starter for the Warriors that does have a large, though unproven, senior group. Head coach Kam Cerroni will need to find consistent scoring but believes his guards will be the strength of his team. Cerroni will have an injection of competition from two lower levels that went a combined 38-6.

Waukesha West

Head Coach: Don LaValle (9th year)
Overall Record: 106-90
2023-24 Varsity Record: 8-18
2023-24 JV Record: 15-7
2023-24 Freshman Record: 12-10
Assistant Coaches: Jeff Cattarozzle, Anthony DeGalley, Jordan Xiong, Ben Hetzel

Key Contributors Lost: Carter LaValle (15.8 ppg), Cael Eide (7.3 ppg), Brady Cattarozzle (1.7 ppg), Brady Raabe (2.8 ppg)

Returning Players: Aiden Owusu-Asiedu, 2025 (9.2 ppg); Tyler Evenson, 2026 (15.5 ppg); Alec Rohloff, 2025; Manu Bonyombe, 2025

Newcomers: Mason Lavalle, 2026; Austin Lambert, 2026; Prince Kuumba, 2026; Gage Dembowski, 2026; Ben Arnold, 2027; Tyler Cattarozzle, 2027

Outlook: West returns two of the better scorers in the conference in Tyler Evenson (6-3) and Aiden Owusu-Asiedu (6-6). Though losing their top scorer in Carter LaValle will be hard to replace, those two should pick up the scoring in bunches for head coach Don LaValle. The Wildcats lack depth behind the top returning players, so finding that from a handful of newcomers will be key in whether West can improve upon last year.

Overall Record: 10-16
2023-24 Varsity Record: 10-16
2023-24 JV Record: 8-14

Assistant Coaches: Mitchell Henes, Aaron Weninger, TJ Pfaffle

Key Contributors Lost: Evan Staudt (6.1 ppg), Bryten Staab (3.2 ppg), Charlie Mroz (5.2 ppg)

Newcomers: Luke Trendel, Gavin Korinko, Isaiah Crawford

Outlook: South returns a lot from last year's squad for head coach Lee Montez's second season. Yovani Perea (6-4) and Zayus Dewalt (5-9) are the top two returning scorers for a team that has plenty of depth where internal competition for minutes will drive the Blackshirts to success on the court.

Waukesha North

Head Coach: Brandon Redman
Overall Record:
2023-24 Varsity Record:
9-16
2023-24 JV Record:
2023-24 Freshman Record:

Assistant Coaches:

Key Contributors Lost: Patrick Still (14.6 ppg), Aiden Faber-Hernandez (5.9 ppg), AJ Curtis (12. ppg), Jayden Myles (11.2 ppg),

Returning Players: Cooper Haas, 2025 (8.6 ppg); Henry Koopmeiner, 2026 (3.4 ppg); Connor Curtis, 2025 (2.5 ppg); Kai Ramirez, 2025; Ben Druhammer, 2025

Newcomers:

Outlook: North lost a lot of production from last year's 9-win team including four of the top five scorers. Cooper Haas is the top returnee for head coach Brandon Redman's squad, having averaged 8.6 points per game last season. The lack of experience will be the biggest question mark heading into the 2024-25 season and how that will effect the competitiveness of North.
