The St. Augustine Prep boys soccer team will compete in its first WIAA State Tournament thanks in part to what Gomez did on the pitch in two sectional matches. The senior forward accounted for all three goals in a 3-1 win over Racine St. Catherine's in the sectionals, netting two goals of his own and assisting on one other. Gomez then found the back of the net two more times in the Lion's 3-2 win over Pius XI Catholic in a sectional final. St. Augustine Prep is the top seed in the Division 3 field.
Kohn took home a state championship this past weekend, running in the WIAA Division 3 Girls Cross Country State Championships. The senior runner finished twelve seconds ahead while running the five kilometer course at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. Kohn's final time of 18:08.4 is the second-fastest time at the state championships in Division 3 history. Kohn finished sixth a year ago, but raced to gold this year.
Putz put himself on the history books this year after winning the WIAA Division 1 Boys Cross Country State Championship. The senior runner finished the five-kilometer run in a time of 15:07.5 which was fifth-best in meet history and two seconds ahead of the second place finisher. The fist place finish in Putz' third straight medalist honors after he finished seventh as a freshman. Putz is the seventh runner in state history to win three state championships in cross country in his career.
Oak Creek will play in its eighth state tournament in girls volleyball as the Ruether and the Knights won a pair of sectional matches to clinch the berth. The junior outside hitter first had 16 kills, 7 digs, 2 aces, 2 blocks, and 1 assist in Oak Creek's 3-0 sweep of Westosha Central in the sectional semifinals. Ruether then tallied 14 kills, 7 digs, 4 aces, 2 blocks, and an assist as Oak Creek beat Franklin 3-1. The Knights are the seven seed and will face off with second-seeded Sussex Hamilton on Thursday in the WIAA Division 1 State semifinals.
Ryan found the end zone three times and completed a few key passes as New Berlin West knocked off Greendale 29-28 in a WIAA Level 2 Football Playoff matchup. The senior running attempted just nine passes in the win, completing four of them for 92. Ryan did most of his damage on the ground as he rushed the ball a team-high 25 times for 108. He found the end zone three times, once in each of the first, second, and fourth quarter.
