By Colton Wilson

The college basketball season is now underway in Division 1 after the first night of games was held last night.

Like years past, there is plenty of talent from the state of Wisconsin that will be suit up at the NCAA Division 1 level. By my count, 97 which is seventeen more than the 80 from last season.

Big names like Max Klesmit, David Joplin, Milan Momcilovic and plenty more headline the incredible talent from the state playing at the highest level collegiately.

Below are a few top highlights for the upcoming season. At the very bottom, you can see a full list of all 97 alumni.

Former Pewaukee standout and Iowa State sophomore Milan Momcilovic

Top Returning Contributors (non-Transfer)

Listed alphabetically by last name

Darius Hannah, Milwaukee Academy of Science

Hannah is in his fifth year at Bradley and has played in 115 games with 52 starts. Last season the former Science standout averaged 11.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game and was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Most Improved Team.

Alex Huibregtse, Grafton

Huibregtse has started 44 games and played in 92 over the past four seasons at Wright State. Last year was his best as he averaged 12.3 points per game while shooting 42% from deep. Huibregtse comes into his final year with 748 points, 254 rebounds, and 181 career assists.

Jayden Jackson, Whitefish Bay

Jackson doesn't have the notoriety of some on this list, but is going into his third four year at Northern Arizona and a returning starter. Jackson redshirted during the 2022-23 after playing in 18 games and starting four as a freshman the year before. Last year, he averaged 10.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists as he started 32 of 33 games for the Lumberjacks.

David Joplin, Brookfield Central

Joplin has steadily improved over the past three seasons at Marquette, leading to him starting all 37 games last season. The 2022-23 Big East Sixth Man of the Year averaged 10.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game in his first year as a starter for one of the top teams in the nation.

Johnny Kinziger, De Pere

Kinziger had a great freshman season at Illinois State averaging 8.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists as he came off the bench most of the season. He was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team and All-Bench team.

Max Klesmit, Neenah

Klesmit enters year three with Wisconsin after transferring from Wofford in 2022. The do-it-all guard is a rock solid defender and outside shooter, having hit 40% from downtown last season. Klesmit enters his senior year with over 1,200 career collegiate points between Wofford and Wisconsin.

Don McHenry, Milwaukee Academy of Science

McHenry may be another less known player on this list as he plays for Western Kentucky in the Conference USA. He played his first two seasons at Hawaii-Hilo and Indian Hills CC before transferring to the Hilltoppers last year. McHenry averaged 15.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game and was a First Team All-Conference USA selection.

Milan Momcilovic, Pewaukee

Momcilovic burst onto the scene as a freshman at Iowa State, averaging 10.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game for the Cyclones and earning Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors. So much so, that the former Pewaukee standout has been mentioned in many mock drafts for the 2025 NBA Draft.

Seth Trimble, Menomonee Falls

Trimble enters his junior year having been a major contributor for one of the blue-blood programs in the nation, North Carolina over the past two seasons. The 2022 Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin averaged 5.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game off the bench and was third in the race for ACC Sixth Man of the Year last season.

Former Nicolet standout and current UCLA senior Kobe Johnson

Top Transfer Storylines

Listed alphabetically by last name

Miles Barnstable, Howards Grove

Barnstable was the top senior Shooter on WSN during his senior campaign with Howards Grove. He then went to UW-Whitewater where he scored nearly 800 points over the past two seasons and earned WIAC First Team All-Conference honors. This season, he'll make the jump to the Division I level with St. Thomas Minnesota.

Leon Bond III, Wauwatosa East

Bond saw action in 24 games last season at Virginia as a freshman, but chose to leave the Cavalier program months before head coach and Stevens Point grad Dick Bennett stepped down as head coach. Bond averaged 4.1 points and 2.8 rebounds per game last season but will suit up for Northern Iowa in 2024-25.

Tyran Cook, Waukesha South

Kobe Johnson, Nicolet

Johnson was a starter for USC for the past two seasons and averaged 10.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists and over two steals per game for the Trojans last season. Johnson is a two-time Pac-12 All-Defense Team selection but will suit up for now Big-Ten rival UCLA.

Isaac Lindsey, Mineral Point

Lindsey was one of a number of transfers from the home-state Wisconsin Badgers over the offseason. He never did quite break the rotation in his two seasons back home after transferring from UNLV after his freshman season. He'll look to bigger piece of the rotation at South Dakota for his senior year.

Jackson Paveletzke, Kimberly

Paveletzke was the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year at Wofford two seasons ago before he transferred to Iowa State before the 2023-24 season. This year he'll suit up for Ohio in the Mid-American Conference after averaging just 3.4 points with the Cyclones.

Weisbrod was a stand out at NCAA Division II Northern Michigan where he accumulated over 930 points, 239 rebounds, and 298 assists over the past two seasons. He was named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-Conference as a freshman and then earned first-team honors and Player of the Year as a sophomore. Weisbrod transferred to Northern Iowa after tearing it up at the Division II level.

Caleb Williams, Wild Rose

Williams went viral last season during a preseason scrimmage between Minnesota and Division III Macalester where he was attending. Fast forward a year and Williams is now on that Minnesota team he torched after scoring over 1,500 points at Macalester.

Jaeden Zackery, Westosha Central

Zackery spent his first college season at NJCAA Chipola College before transferring to Boston College where he started 100 games over the last three seasons. He know suits up for ACC foe Clemson after scoring 1,106 points with Boston College.
