Bayer helped the Sussex Hamilton boys volleyball team capture gold this past weekend, winning a trio of matches en route to the program's first ever state championship. In a sweep of Kenosha Indian Trail in the quarterfinals, the junior outside hitter had seven digs, three kills, an assist, and an ace. He then had 15 kills and 6 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Germantown in the semifinals. Bayer saved his best performance for last as he tallied 36 kills, 12 digs, and an ace in Hamilton's 3-2 thriller over Middleton in the WIAA State Championship.
Waukesha West won its first ever state title in boys soccer thanks in large part to Escamilla's play in the net at the state tournament. The senior goalkeeper allowed one goal but had three saves in a 2-1 state semifinal win over DeForest. West then took down Elkhorn in a thrilling Division 2 State Championship that was won via a shootout. Escamilla didn't allow a single goal through 100 minutes of regulation, recording three saves. In the shootout, only one of five scored on the senior keeper, clinching the win for the Wolverines.
Halverson had a great state tournament as she and the Barron girls volleyball team won a gold ball for the second time in program history. The sophomore outside hitter had 21 kills, 12 digs, 4 blocks, 4 assists, and 3 aces in a five-set win over Lake Country Lutheran in the state semifinals. Halverson then tallied 24 kills, 13 digs, 3 aces, 3 blocks, and 2 assists in the 3-1 victory over Aquinas. The Golden Bears won the WIAA Division 3 State Championship, the second in program history.
Quest capped off her and fellow Dasher seniors prep careers with a third straight state championship this past weekend. The Wisconsin commit had 21 kills, 4 digs, 2 blocks, 2 aces, and an assist in a 3-0 sweep of Holmen in the Division 1 quarterfinals. She tallied 10 kills and 7 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Mukwonago in the semifinals. Quest then had 18 kills, 15 digs, 4 blocks, and 2 aces as DSHA beat Sussex Hamilton 3-1 in the WIAA Division 1 State Championship. Quest finished her prep career with three straight state championships, the first time that has happened in Division 1.
The Manitowoc Lutheran girls volleyball team was competing in its second ever state tournament this past weekend and came home with its first ever gold ball. Stuebs was dominant in the two matches. In an opening 3-0 sweep of Wabenoa/Laona in the state semifinals, the sophomore outside hitter tallied 24 kills, five digs, five aces, an assist and a block. Stuebs then had 33 kills, 16 digs, three aces and two assists as the Lancers took down Regis 3-2 to win the WIAA Division 4 State Championship.
