High school basketball season is officially here, with boys teams getting practice underway today and the first girls games of the year tipping off tomorrow night.
While there are some changes at WSN, our commitment to providing the best and most comprehensive coverage of high school basketball anywhere in Wisconsin remains steadfast as we begin our 23rd year.
On the girls side, Norbert Durst returns as the girls basketball writer and our Content Manager. Norbert is the recognized girls basketball expert in the state with more than a dozen years on the beat, earning the Media Person of the Year recognition from the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association in 2015. He serves on the WBCA Executive Board, on the WBCA Girls Basketball All-State Committee, and on the WBCA's Hall of Fame Committee. Norbert previously coached girls basketball at the middle and high school level and played collegiately at UW-Richland.
WSN content producer Colton Wilson and WSN General Manager Travis Wilson will each contribute to boys basketball coverage. Colton has been a high school basketball coach for ten years in addition to his duties at WSN. He's served as the WSN Event Manager, running our showcases and tournaments. He's also been a contributing writer for boys basketball content since joining WSN in 2016. Travis is in his 17th year at WisSports.net, including tenth as the General Manager. He's coached basketball for nearly 30 years, from youth to high school and three years as head mens basketball coach at UW-Richland. In addition to serving as the football editor and writer at WSN, he's also been a featured writer for boys and girls basketball content. Travis serves on the WBCA Executive Board as the website and communications director while also serving on the boys All-State committee.
Already, preseason content is underway at WisSports.net with Conference Previews, as Norbert and Colton will complete previews for every league in the state. Additional preseason content to include Preseason Division Rankings, top players, Senior Award Watch Lists, and more will be published in the coming days.
Once the season gets going, look for regular content to include Three-Point Challenge Leaderboard updates on Mondays after Christmas, the weekly WSN Coaches Poll on Tuesdays, previews and recaps of big games from weekend action, player features, and much more throughout the season.
Of course WisSports.net is the best resource for scores, stats, schedules, rosters, state stats leaders, and much more for both boys and girls basketball.
As a reminder, the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association requires coaches to enter stats on WisSports.net to be used on All-State and All-Star Game nominations. Also, the WIAA and the participants for their 3-Point Challenge will be based on stats in our database.
We're thrilled to get another season underway, and fulfilling our mission to provide the best coverage of high school basketball in Wisconsin, and the nation.
Travis Wilson serves as the WisSports.net General Manager, Football Editor, and contributing writer for other parts of the site.
