1. Laconia 
Coach: Chris Morgan, 15th year - 251-108 overall | 246-71 in 12 years as girls’ head coach

2023-24 Record: 28-2, 14-0 in Flyway 
2023-24 Finish: Won second consecutive Division 4 state championship, defeating Cuba City, 47-43, in the state title game. 

The Spartans have a deep and talented roster, highlighted by reigning Flyway Player of the Year Tierney Madigan, the team’s top scorer and second-leading rebounder last season. Other top returning players include Aubrey Leonard, Payton Morgan, and Finley Morgan. Laconia was elevated to Division 3 this season due to meeting the six-point Tournament Performance Factor threshold in the Competitive Balance Plan in its first year. The Spartans were placed in Sectional 3, which includes Edgerton, a team they could meet in a sectional final. Laconia has a loaded non-conference that starts with playing two talented Division 3 teams in Oostburg (Nov. 19) and last year’s D3 state runner-up Xavier (Nov. 21). Other notable non-conference games include Homestead (Nov. 29 at Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic), Lakeland (Dec. 26 at UW-Stevens Point, Sentry Classic), Kettle Moraine Lutheran (Jan. 6, D3 state qualifier last season), West De Pere (Jan. 13), Beaver Dam (Feb. 3), Edgewood (Feb. 8, last year’s D3 state champion, now in D2), and Pewaukee (Feb. 22, last year’s D2 state champion, now in D1). Laconia enters the year with a 14-game winning streak. 

2. Oostburg 
Coach: Isaiah Ketterhagen, 21st year - 293-174 overall | 145-33 in seven years at Oostburg 
Returning Starters: Ady Ketterhagen (5-9, jr., 21.4 ppg, 46 3PM, 9.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 3.8 apg, 4.1 spg), Riley Ketterhagen (5-9, jr., 17.3 ppg, 69 3PM, 4 apg, 2.8 spg; out indefinitely with meniscus injury)

2023-24 Finish: Lost to Dominican, 51-47 OT, in a regional final. 

Two-time Big East South Player of the Year Ady Ketterhagen headlines the roster and Riley Ketterhagen (out indefinitely with meniscus injury) joins her twin sister as a top returnee, both are UW-Green Bay commits. Kinsley Ketterhagen, the second-youngest of coach Ketterhagen’s daughters, is a freshman who holds several NCAA Division I offers. Oostburg, looking for its 11th WIAA State Tournament appearance and first since 2010, is in the same half-sectional as Kettle Moraine Lutheran, last year’s sectional champion, while Catholic Memorial and Milwaukee Academy of Science are on the other side of the sectional. The Lady Dutch open the season at home against Laconia, winners of the last two Division 4 WIAA state titles. Their non-conference schedule also includes Pius XI Catholic (Nov. 29 at Brookfield Central Thanksgiving Shootout), Beaver Dam (Jan. 14), Waunakee (Feb. 8), and Appleton East (Feb. 18). 

3. Edgerton 
Coach: Chris Jenny, 5th year - 86-14 record 
Returning Starters: Claudia Jenny (5-5, soph., 10 ppg, 5 apg, 2.6 spg), Marti Rebman (5-8, jr., 9.9 ppg), Gracee Langer (5-10, jr., 10 ppg, 6 rpg)

Leading the group of returnees is Claudia Jenny, who led the Rock Valley Rock in assists and steals last season as a freshman. Joining her as returning starters are junior Marti Rebman and Gracee Langer. Edgerton is the team to beat in their half-sectional in Division 3. The Crimson Tide won’t have to deal with Edgewood in the postseason this season as they moved up to Division 2 due to an increase in enrollment, but Laconia (two-time defending D4 state champion) moves into their sectional after being elevated to D3 in the Competitive Balance Plan that starts this season. 

4. Milwaukee Academy of Science 
Coach: Giovanni Riley, 8th year - 112-43 record 
Returning Starters: Jaeda Turner (5-5, sr., 16.4 ppg, 2 apg, 3.1 spg), Ariell Allen (5-7, soph., 11.7 ppg, 3.5 apg, 3 spg), Ellis Williams (5-8, sr., 8.3 ppg, 51 3PM, 5 rpg), Kourtlyn Guy (5-10, soph., 7.8 ppg, 5.5 ppg), Faith Trotter (6-3, sr., 3.8 ppg, 5 rpg, 2.8 bpg), Jariah Riley (5-8, sr., 3 ppg, 2.8 apg)

Jaeda Turner, the team’s leading scorer last season, highlights the roster and Ariel Allen is another returning double-digit scorer. The Novas have five seniors who were a part of the D3 state runner-up team in 2023. They play Kettle Moraine Lutheran and Beaver Dam at the Beaver Dam Classic (Nov. 22-23) the first week of the season. Other notable contests include Catholic Memorial (Dec. 27 at Carthage College), Menomonee Falls (Jan. 4), and Kenosha Tremper (Jan. 14). The Novas’ half-sectional includes Catholic Memorial while the other side’s top teams are Oostburg and Kettle Moraine Lutheran. 

5. Kettle Moraine Lutheran 
Coach: Jason Walz, 21st year - 339-134 record 
Returning Starters: Makenzie Luehring (5-6, sr., 18.4 ppg, 5 rpg, 4.2 apg, 5.4 spg), Madeline Leffel (5-10, sr., 12.6 ppg, 68 3PM, 5.2 rpg), Mollie Murphy (5-10, sr., 4.8 ppg)

D-II Lewis University recruit Makenzie Luehring, the ECC leader in points and steals last season, headlines the roster for the Chargers. Another top returnee is Madeline Leffel, East Central’s top three-point shooter last season. Kettle Moraine Lutheran has non-conference games against Milwaukee Academy of Science (Nov. 22) and Aquinas (Nov. 23) at the Beaver Dam Classic, along with a meeting against Stevens Point (Nov. 29) at the Brookfield Central Thanksgiving Shootout before opening ECC play at Waupun on December 3. The Chargers’ loaded non-league schedule also includes Germantown (Dec. 21), Wisconsin Lutheran (Dec. 28), Homestead (Jan. 14), Hartford (Jan. 18), and Brookfield East (Jan. 21). KML is in the same half-sectional (Division 3 Sectional 4) as Oostburg and Sheboygan Falls while Milwaukee Academy of Science and Catholic Memorial on the other side of the sectional. 

6. Xavier
Coach: Andy Vande Hey, 3rd year - 31-25 record

The Hawks return several contributors despite losing four starters from their state runner-up team. Elle Krull, second on the team in scoring last season, and Joy Krull, team leader in assists and second in steals, lead the returning group. Along with playing in the Bay, which includes West De Pere, they have non-conference games versus Laconia (Nov. 21), Catholic Memorial (Nov. 30 at Brookfield Central Thanksgiving Shootout), The Prairie School (Dec. 21), Lakeland (Jan. 25) and Edgewood (Jan. 29). Xavier is the favorite in Sectional 2, which includes Freedom and Wittenberg-Birnamwood on the other side. 

7. Catholic Memorial 
Coach: Bob Wellenstein, 1st year 
Returning Starters: Jenna Welsch (5-10, sr., 17 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 2.5 apg, 3.1 spg, 1.5 bpg), Kelly Boinski (5-9, jr., 10.4 ppg), Sami Sarner (5-9, jr., 8.6 ppg, 50 3PM, 2 apg, 2.2 spg)

Catholic Memorial benefits from playing against Division 1 teams in the Classic Eight, including defending D1 state champion Arrowhead. The Crusaders' non-conference schedule includes Union Grove (Nov. 26), Xavier (Nov. 30 at Brookfield Central Thanksgiving Shootout), Elkhorn (Dec. 10), and Milwaukee Academy of Science (Dec. 27 at Carthage College). Catholic Memorial is in the same half-sectional as Milwaukee Academy of Science and the other side features Oostburg and Kettle Moraine Lutheran. 

8. Sheboygan Falls
Coach: Paul Houwers, 5th year - 53-42 record

Reigning EWC Player of the Year Addison Schliewe, an NCAA D-I St. Thomas MN recruit, headlines the roster for the Falcons. Other top returnees are Makenzie Schroeder and Mollie Schliewe, both scoring in double-figures last season. Sheboygan Falls has notable non-conference games against Pius XI Catholic (Nov. 30 at Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic), Muskego (Dec. 27 at Oshkosh Arena), Manitowoc Lutheran (Jan. 4, away), and Kewaunee (Jan. 24, home). The Falcons are in the same half-sectional as Oostburg and Kettle Moraine Lutheran while Catholic Memorial and Milwaukee Academy of Science are in the other half of the sectional. 

9. Wittenberg-Birnamwood
Coach: Nick Mechelke, 8th year - 127-37 record

Reigning CWC East Player of the Year Rory Salvesen, who led the league in scoring last season, headlines the lineup for the Chargers. Joining her as a top returnee is Melaina Granquist, who was third in the league in scoring and third in rebounding last season. Wittenberg-Birnamwood, which competes in Division 3 for the WIAA Playoffs, is in the same half-sectional as Freedom, and Xavier, last year’s state runner-up, is the top team in the other half of Sectional 2. 

10. Elk Mound
Coach: Jordan ​​Kongshaug, 15th year - 241-95 record

Ellie Schiszik, the reigning DSC Player of the Year, headlines the squad for the Mounders. Joining her as returning starters are fellow seniors Allie Robel and Allie Roder. Elk Mound opens the season with non-conference games against Prescott (away, Nov. 19), Somerset (home, Nov. 21), and Fall Creek (home, No. 26) before beginning league play against Durand-Arkansaw at home on December 5. The Mounders also have notable non-league games versus Baldwin-Woodville (away, Jan. 6) and Regis (home, Jan. 20). Elk Mound is the favorite in its half-sectional (Division 3, Sectional 1) and could meet Baldwin-Woodville in a sectional final again this season.
