Anna Miller, a Division I prospect who led the team in scoring and three-point shooting last season, headlines the Crusaders’ roster. Erin Schauer and Maren Schmotzer, a D-I Northern Iowa recruit, join Miller as returning starters. Edgewood’s enrollment pushed them into Division 2 this season and they are in the same sectional as West Salem, which they could meet in a sectional final. The Crusaders open the season at Arrowhead, the defending D1 state champions, on November 23. Other notable non-league games are versus Aquinas (Nov. 26), Cuba City (Dec. 28), Madison Memorial (Jan. 25), Xavier (Jan. 29), and Laconia (Feb. 8). Edgewood enters the year with a 15-game winning streak. 

2. Lakeland
Coach: Melissa Ouimette, 10th year - 162-63 record

Kristina Ouimette, the reigning GNC Player of the Year who led the league in points and assists, headlines the Thunderbirds’ roster. Lakeland has a strong non-conference schedule which includes games against Waunakee (Nov. 23 at Beaver Dam Classic), Rice Lake (Dec. 10), Laconia (Dec. 26 at the Sentry Classic, UW-Stevens Point), Stevens Point (Dec. 27 at Sentry Classic), West De Pere (Jan. 4), and Xavier (Jan. 25). The Thunderbirds are in the same half-sectional as Rice Lake; last season Lakeland beat Rice Lake, 70-69, in a regional final. 

3. Wauwatosa East
Coach: Mary Merg, 7th year - 71-76 record

Joining Litza as a top returnee is Emma Close, a D-I prospect, who was second on the team in scoring and their top three-point shooter. Tosa East has notable non-league games against Wisconsin Lutheran (Nov. 21) and West Salem (Feb. 15). The Red Raiders’ sectional (Sectional 4) includes Pius XI Catholic, Whitefish Bay, and Wisconsin Lutheran. 

4. West Salem 
Coach: Mike Malott, 23rd year, 347-123 record

Megan Johnson, the reigning Coulee Player of the Year, headlines the Panthers’ roster. West Salem has notable non-conference games against Eau Claire Memorial (Nov. 30 at Eau Claire North Thanksgiving Invite), Hudson (Dec. 7 at UW-River Falls Invite), Aquinas (Jan. 17), and Wauwatosa East (Feb. 15). The Panthers, looking for their third consecutive trip to the WIAA State Tournament, are in the same sectional (Division 2, Sectional 2) as Edgewood, last year’s Division 3 state champion. Two teams that West Salem, and the rest of Division 2, won’t have to deal with in the playoffs this season are Pewaukee and Notre Dame (winners of the last four D2 state titles), both were elevated to Division 1 in the first year of the Competitive Balance Plan taking effect. 

5. West De Pere
Coach: Chris Abaray, 16th year | 128-42 in 7 years at WDP

West De Pere has notable non-league contests against Hortonville (Dec. 30), Lakeland (Jan. 4), Laconia (Jan. 13), and Kimberly (Jan. 21). The Phantoms’ sectional (Sectional 2) includes New Berlin Eisenhower and Waukesha West, both on the other half of the sectional. 

6. Pius XI Catholic

Pius XI Catholic’s half-sectional includes Wauwatosa East and Whitefish Bay. The Lady Popes’ non-league schedule includes Kettle Moraine Lutheran (Nov. 26) and Oostburg (Nov. 29 at Brookfield Central Thanksgiving Shootout), Brookfield East (Dec. 17), Hartford (Dec. 27 at Hartford Holiday Shootout), and Oak Creek (Feb. 22). 

7. Waukesha West

Former Waukesha South head coach Paul Darling was named the Wolverines’ new leader in the offseason. Jordan Fenske, a D-I Illinois State recruit who was second in the Classic Eight in scoring last season, leads the returning group. Taylor Gifford and Ava Spratt also return as double-digit scorers for Waukesha West. They are in the same half-sectional as New Berlin Eisenhower and the other half features West De Pere. The Wolverines have a notable non-league contest against Wisconsin Lutheran (Dec. 17) to go along with playing in the Classic Eight which features Arrowhead, the defending D1 state champion. 

8. Wisconsin Lutheran

They have other notable non-league contests against Hartford (Dec. 7), Waukesha West (Dec. 17), Germantown (Jan. 18), and The Prairie School (Jan. 21). 

9. Whitefish Bay

Whitefish Bay, which competes against Hartford and Homestead in the North Shore, has early season non-conference games against Appleton East (Nov. 29) and Waunakee (Nov. 30) at the Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic. The Blue Dukes are in the same half-sectional as Wauwatosa East, last year’s sectional champion. 

10. New Berlin Eisenhower
