Anna Miller, a Division I prospect who led the team in scoring and three-point shooting last season, headlines the Crusaders’ roster. Erin Schauer and Maren Schmotzer, a D-I Northern Iowa recruit, join Miller as returning starters. Edgewood’s enrollment pushed them into Division 2 this season and they are in the same sectional as West Salem, which they could meet in a sectional final. The Crusaders open the season at Arrowhead, the defending D1 state champions, on November 23. Other notable non-league games are versus Aquinas (Nov. 26), Cuba City (Dec. 28), Madison Memorial (Jan. 25), Xavier (Jan. 29), and Laconia (Feb. 8). Megan Johnson, the reigning Coulee Player of the Year, headlines the Panthers’ roster. West Salem has notable non-conference games against Eau Claire Memorial (Nov. 30 at Eau Claire North Thanksgiving Invite), Hudson (Dec. 7 at UW-River Falls Invite), Aquinas (Jan. 17), and Wauwatosa East (Feb. 15). The Panthers, looking for their third consecutive trip to the WIAA State Tournament, are in the same sectional (Division 2, Sectional 2) as Edgewood, last year’s Division 3 state champion. Two teams that West Salem, and the rest of Division 2, won’t have to deal with in the playoffs this season are Pewaukee and Notre Dame (winners of the last four D2 state titles), both were elevated to Division 1 in the first year of the Competitive Balance Plan taking effect.
5. West De Pere
