Wisconsin Sports Network and WisSports.net are happy to announce Franklin's Joey Kallay as the 2024 recipient of the Dave Krieg Award as the most outstanding senior quarterback in Wisconsin, part of the WSN Senior Football Awards.

Joey Kallay of Franklin split time at the quarterback spot as a sophomore in 2022, then took over full-time last season when he led the Sabers to an unbeaten regular season and Division 1 state runner-up finish.

In his senior campaign, he completed 63.3% of his passes for 2,230 yards and 32 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 12.4 yards per attempt as the Sabers once again went undefeated in the regular season.

That's led to a 132.2 passer rating for Kallay, who has more than 6000 passing yards in his career with 64 touchdowns.

"Joey is a tremendous young man with great work ethic," said head coach Louis Brown. "He does everything right."

Kallay was recognized this week on the WFCA Large School All-State list. He is the fourth player from Franklin to earn the Dave Krieg Award, joining Lance Baretz, Max Alba, and Myles Burkett.

Finalists for the award were Kallay, Owen Fiedler of Madison Memorial, Brady Hilgart of Grafton, Drew Kortz of Freedom, and Jack Tubbs of Stratford.

Past winners of the award include Oshkosh West's Trey Demler (2009), Franklin's Lance Baretz (2010), West De Pere's Jay Tollefson (2011), Watertown's Tarek Yaeggi (2012), Xavier's Matt Ferris (2013), Brown Deer's Zack Baun (2014), Amherst's Garrett Groshek (2015), Kimberly's Danny Vanden Boom (2016), Franklin's Max Alba (2017), Kimberly's Cody Staerkel (2018), La Crosse Central's Johnny Davis (2019), Lake Mills' Adam Moen (2020), Franklin's Myles Burkett (2021), Sun Prairie East's Jerry Kaminski (2022), and Onalaska's Adam Skifton (2023).

The award is named after Dave Krieg, a graduate of D.C. Everest High School who went on to star at Milton College and later in the National Football League. Krieg ranks in the Top 12 in NFL history in career pass attempts, completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. He was selected to the Pro Bowl three times in his 12-year career.
