Argyle/Pecatonica (26-2 overall) won the Six Rivers East title with a perfect 8-0 record. Albany/Monticello (27-3) finished second, going 6-2. They met in the Division 5 state semifinals with Albany/Monticello posting a 37-31 victory after losing to Argyle/Pecatonica twice in the regular season. Barneveld (12-14, 3-5), Black Hawk (13-13, 3-5), and Juda (2-22, 0-8) closed out the conference standings.

Players to Watch
Kylie Butler, jr., Argyle/Pecatonica – Butler, a 5-7 point guard, averaged 22.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 3.8 steals per game as a sophomore en route to being selected Six Rivers East Co-Player of the Year and WBCA all-state. The NCAA Division I UW-Milwaukee recruit also connected on 46 three-pointers for the D5 state qualifiers. Kylie has over 1,100 career points.
Izabel Durst, jr., Barneveld – Durst, a 5-7 point guard, received first-team all-Six Rivers East and WBCA all-state as a sophomore. The NCAA Division I prospect averaged 14.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.8 steals per game for the Golden Eagles.
Abby Hollis, sr., Albany/Monticello – Hollis, a 5-6 guard, was named first-team all-league and honorable mention WBCA all-state as a junior for the D5 state champions. The NAIA Clarke University recruit averaged 11.8 points, 3.0 assists, and 1.8 steals per contest while shooting 67-for-164 (40.9%) from behind the arc. Abby has over 900 career points.
Maddy Lange, sr., Black Hawk – Lange, a 5-7 forward, was voted second-team all-conference as a junior, averaging 13.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per contest for the Warriors.
Molly Olson, jr., Albany/Monticello – Olson, a 5-4 point guard, earned second-team all-Six Rivers East last season as a sophomore for the Division 5 state champions. She tallied 9.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. Olson shot 42-for-129 from 3-point land.
Loretta Tisch, jr., Arygle/Pecatonica – Tisch, a 5-6 guard, contributed 7.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 3.0 steals per contest for the D5 state qualifiers as a sophomore.
Dalana Trumpy, sr., Albany/Monticello – Trumpy, a 5-8 forward, averaged 10 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game last season, receiving second-team all-league for the D5 state champions.
Brooke Wellnitz, soph., Argyle/Pecatonica – Wellnitz, a 5-10 wing/forward, was named first-team all-Six Rivers East and honorable mention WBCA all-state in her debut season. The NCAA Division I prospect averaged 14.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 4.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game for the D5 state qualifiers.
2024-25 Team Previews
1) Arygle/Pecatonica is the defending Six Rivers East champion and team to beat in 2024-25. The co-op returns four starters from last year’s team which went unbeaten in the conference and reached the Division 5 WIAA state tournament, ending the year with a 26-2 record. Fourth-year head coach Jen Krogman told WisSports.net that their strengths include experience, defense, ability to press, and a high basketball IQ. “Outside of our top five, we have a lot of growth that needs to be done.” UW-Milwaukee recruit Kylie Butler and Brooke Wellnitz, a Division I prospect, headline the roster for Argyle/Pecatonica. Butler led the team in points and assists while Wellnitz was second in points and the team leader in rebounds and steals last season. They also welcome back Loretta Tisch and Avari Steiner as starters. Argyle/Pecatonica’s enrollment pushed them up to Division 4 for the WIAA Playoffs and are in Sectional 3 which includes Cuba City, Mineral Point, and Aquinas. The co-op’s first meeting against Albany/Monticello isn’t until January 9.

2) Albany/Monticello brings back four starters from last year’s team which finished second (6-2) in the Six Rivers East and ended the season as the Division 5 WIAA State Champion, going 27-3 overall. The Space Stallions defeated Argyle/Pecatonica in a state semifinal after losing to them twice in the regular season. Derik Doescher, 20th year as a head coach, has a 166-43 record as a girls’ coach. Coach Doescher told WSN that guard play will be a strength for them. “We have a great amount of experience at the guard position and that will carry us in key moments.” He went on to say that team chemistry, defensive intensity, and ability to defend are other strengths. “Areas of challenge may be finding points in the paint offensively and rebounding against teams that have a strong concentration around post play,” noted coach Doescher. Abby Hollis, second on the team in scoring last season, will take on a leading role. Other top returnees for the defending D5 state champions are Dalana Trumpy and Molly Olson. Their first meeting against Argyle/Monticello isn’t until January 9. Albany/Monticello was ranked No. 3 in the D5 WSN Preseason Rankings.

3) Barneveld returns three starters from last year’s team which finished 3-5 in the Six Rivers East and 12-14 overall last season. WBCA Hall of Fame coach Jim Myers, the second-winningest coach in girls’ basketball state history, returns for a second stint as the Golden Eagles' head coach. He compiled a 699-138 record with six WIAA state titles (2nd-most titles in girls’ basketball state history) in 38 years at the helm. Coach Myers told WSN that experience, work ethic, and athleticism are team strengths. Division I prospect Izabel Durst, the second-leading scorer in the Six Rivers East last season, headlines the Golden Eagles’ lineup. Barneveld is in the same half-sectional as Shullsburg. They won’t have to deal with the teams picked above them in the conference to get to the WIAA State Tournament with Albany/Monticello in Sectional 4 and Argyle/Pecatonica now in Division 4. 4) Black Hawk brings back four starters from its 2023-24 squad which went 3-5 in the conference and 13-13 overall. The Warriors had a coaching change in the offseason with Darlington graduate Kaylee Meyers hired to lead the program. Coach Meyers, who served as an assistant coach at Belmont the past two seasons, told WSN that they are an experienced team that is well-equipped to dominate in the post. “Our interior presence will be a key focal point for opposing teams, which will create opportunities for our guards to make the right reads and capitalize on perimeter scoring.” Coach Meyers went on to say that defensively they will emphasize ball pressure, forcing turnovers, and securing rebounds. “[Our] returning starters will provide leadership on both ends of the court, ensuring a balanced and cohesive approach throughout the season,” explained coach Meyers. Highlighting the Warriors’ roster is Maddy Lange, the team’s leading scorer and rebounder last season. Other top returnees include Maddy Place and Hailey Wellnitz.

5) Juda returns three starters from last year’s team which went winless in the Six Rivers East and 2-22 overall. Second-year head coach Justy Roth told WSN that they should be more dynamic this year and rebound the ball well. “Still a pretty young team so we are looking to learn and grow along the way.” Phoenix Homan leads the group for the Panthers.
