2023-24 Recap
Franklin (20-9) claimed the Southeast title, going 13-1, and advanced to the Division 1 state tournament, dropping an 82-55 contest against Arrowhead which went on to claim the D1 state championship. Oak Creek (15-11) finished in second place, posting an 11-3 record, followed by Kenosha Tremper (18-9, 10-4) and Kenosha Bradford (17-8, 9-5). Tremper (Muskego, 60-38) and Bradford (Franklin, 48-44 OT) advanced to D1 sectionals before being eliminated from the postseason. Closing out the conference standings were Kenosha Indian Trail (13-13. 6-8), Racine Case (11-14, 5-9), Racine Park (10-15, 2-12), and Racine Horlick (5-20, 0-14).

Rihanna Barker, soph., Kenosha Bradford – Barker, guard, tallied 11.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 3.0 steals per game on her way to being named second-team all-SEC as a freshman.
Addison Betker, soph., Racine Park – Betker, a 5-6 point guard, was named second-team all-SEC as a freshman, averaging 14.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.6 steals per game.
Megan Geason, sr., Oak Creek – Geason, a 5-11 wing/forward, returns after missing nearly all of her junior season with a knee injury. In three games played last season, Geason averaged 12.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest.
Emily Giese, sr., Kenosha Tremper – Giese, a 6-0 wing/forward, averaged 17 points, 12.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 3.7 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game last season on her way to being selected first-team all-SEC.
Iyanna Green, sr., Kenosha Bradford – Green, a 5-5 point guard, was voted first-team all-Southeast last season for the Red Devils. She averaged 14.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.7 steals per contest.
Taccarri Hicks, jr., Racine Case – Hicks, a 5-7 guard, averaged 22.5 points per game en route to being voted first-team all-conference last season as a sophomore.
Savannah Jones, sr., Oak Creek – Jones, a 5-6 guard, contributed 9.2 points and 1.6 assists per game for the Knights. Savannah made a team-high 55 three-pointers.
Alise Keys, jr., Kenosha Bradford – Keyes, a 5-9 forward, earned third-team all-SEC last season after averaging 9.1 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game for the Red Devils.
Ameri Lawson, sr., Racine Horlick – Lawson, a 6-0 forward, tallied 12.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game as a junior, earning third-team all-conference for the Rebels.
Lily Meo, soph., Kenosha Indian Trail – Meo, a 5-7 guard, will take on an expanded role after tallying 10.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 2.5 steals last season as a freshman. Lily also made 29 three-pointers.
Brenna Nichols, jr., Franklin – Nichols, a 5-6 guard, will take on a more prominent role after contributing 4.2 points per game for the Southeast champions last season.
Josie Tenuta, sr., Kenosha Tremper – Tenuta, a 5-9 guard, received second-team all-SEC last season, averaging 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per contest. Josie shot 78-for-206 from 3-point land.
2024-25 Team Previews
1) Oak Creek is the team to beat in the Southeast. The Knights welcome back three starters from their 2023-24 squad which finished second (11-3) in the conference and 15-11 overall. WBCA Hall of Fame coach Steve Hluchnik, who has a 425-220 career record in 29 years as a head coach, has a 302-83 mark in 16 years at Oak Creek, including guiding them to the WIAA Division 1 state championship in 2014. Coach Hluchnik told WSN that their strengths include defense and post players while depth is a weakness. The Knights’ roster is highlighted by Megan Geason, who is back after being sidelined her junior season with a knee injury. Savannah Jones, the team’s top three-point shooter last season, and Ava Heritage return as starters and will take on larger roles. Oak Creek opens SEC play at Kenosha Indian Trail on December 6. The Knights’ non-conference schedule includes Kimberly, Brookfield East, and Pius XI.

2) Kenosha Bradford returns nearly all of its key players from last year’s team which finished fourth (9-5) in the SEC and advanced to D1 sectional play, ending the year 18-8 overall. The Red Devils’ roster is highlighted by Iyanna Green, the third-leading scorer in the conference last season. Rihanna Barker joins Green as a double-digit scorer. Bradford also returns Alise Keys, team leader in rebounding last season, and Telisha Brown, leader in steals, as starters. Kenosha Bradford, which opens SEC play at home against Tremper on December 6, doesn’t play favorite Oak Creek until January 24. The Red Devils posted an early season non-conference win over Muskego, the preseason favorite in Sectional 4.

3) Kenosha Tremper brings back its top two scorers from last year’s team which finished third (10-4) in the Southeast and reached Division 1 sectionals, ending the year 18-9 overall. Headlining the Trojans roster is Emily Giese, who was third in the league in points per game and among leaders in rebounds, steals, and blocks. Another top returnee is Josie Tenuta, who was among the state leaders in three-pointers made last season. AJ West also returns as a starter for Tremper. They open Southeast play at Kenosha Bradford on December 6.

4) Franklin, the defending Southeast champions, will have a revamped starting five after losing four starters from last year’s team which made a trip to the WIAA state tournament and ended the year 20-9 overall. The Sabers will also need to adjust to a new head coach with Laura Barczak hired to lead the team. Their top returnees are Brianna Binkowski and Brenna Nichols. The Sabers’ group of newcomers includes several freshmen including Gabriella Pritchard. Franklin begins league play at home against Racine Case on December 6.

6) Kenosha Indian Trail will need to replace three starters, including Southeast Player of the Year Adrianna Gonzalez (now playing at D-I Iona), from last year’s team which went 6-8 in the league and 13-13 overall. Fourth-year head coach Charles Basaldua (40-37 record) told WSN they are a young team with one freshman and six sophomores. “ Inexperience might hurt us early in the year and lack of maturity when games/ practices get challenging.” Gianna Greno will take on a leadership role this season. Other notable returnees include Lily Meo and Aaliyah Taylor who will take on expanded roles. The Hawks open SEC play at home against Oak Creek on December 6.
