Triple Threat Athlete of the Week: Sarah Shaw, Assumption

The Triple Threat Athlete of the Week is an honor given on WisSports.net to the top senior boys and girls three-sport athletes in the state. Players are recognized each week on WSN, with a boys and girls winner of the Pat Richter Award at the end of the season to the best three-sport athlete of the year.

The Triple Threat Athlete of the Week is presented by the U.S. Marine Corps. The award recognizes student athletes who embody the spirit of teamwork, perseverance, and discipline across multiple sports. The mission of Marine Corps Recruiting Station Milwaukee is to find qualified men and women in Wisconsin and the surrounding area interested in becoming a United States Marine. Marines maintain the legacy of the Marine Corps by winning our nations battles and returning to their communities as quality citizens whether they are active duty or reservist. The coveted title of Marine applies only to those who graduate from the Recruit Depots or Officer Candidate School. RS Milwaukee will provide any qualified man or woman the opportunity to attend the training required to become a Marine - Enlisted or Officer.

Tennis Honors: Four-year letter-winner for the Royals... first-team all-Coulee as a senior... Coulee Doubles Player of the Year (with doubles partner Addi Vollert)... Division 2 state qualifier as a junior and senior... coached by Phil Hartley... 

Basketball Honors: Entered her senior year as a three-year letter-winner for coach Ryan Klein and the Royals... Shaw has helped lead Assumption to three Marawood South titles and a 77-11 record entering the year.. named first-team all-Marawood South as a sophomore and junior... first-team Division 5 WBCA all-state as a sophomore and junior... Marawood South Player of the Year as a junior... WSAW Channel 7 All-Star as a junior... Marawood South All-Defensive Team as a freshman and junior... helped Assumption finish as a Division 5 state runner-up as a freshman... the 5-6 guard averaged 15.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 7.0 steals per game as a junior for the 26-3 Royals, which reached a Division 5 sectional final... Shaw entered her senior year with 353 steals and led the state in steals per game last season... 

Soccer Honors: Enters senior year as a three-year letter-winner for coach Jim Wendels and the Royals... first-team all-conference as a freshman, sophomore, and junior... Mid-Western Wisconsin Conference Player of the Year as a junior... helped Assumption to a WIAA state tournament appearance as a sophomore... 

Favorite Sport (and why): "My favorite sport is basketball because I've had the privilege of playing with my best friends since fourth grade."

Best Part of High School Sports (and why): "The best part of playing sports is getting to do what I love while being surrounded by so many great friends."

Best Advice from a High School Coach: "I have had a lot of good advice from many great coaches, but one quote comes to mind when I’m getting ready to step on the court or the field. 'On the whistle, unleash hell'.  - Assumption head soccer coach Jim Wendels"

Most Memorable Moment in High School Sports: "My most memorable high school moment was during my freshman year, right before the state basketball championship game. It was almost a surreal experience to be running out on the court and getting ready to play for a gold ball."

Best Part of Playing Three Sports: "The best part of playing three sports is the variety it brings, allowing me to constantly challenge myself, keep things fresh and enjoyable, and experience the change of new teammates."

Most Difficult Part of Playing Three Sports: "The most difficult part of playing three sports is that there never seems to be enough time to truly rest my body.  There is also not a lot of downtime to just relax with family and friends."

Favorite Opponent (and why): "Anyone we play in a big game with a playoff-like atmosphere. The energy, enthusiasm, and support of the crowd make playing in those big games an incredible experience.  Last year’s sectional semi-final basketball game versus Oshkosh Lourdes was one of those memorable games and moments."

Favorite Professional Team: Green Bay Packers

Favorite College Team: Wisconsin Badgers Basketball

Cumulative GPA: 3.98. 

Toughest Individual You’ve Competed Against (and why): "My cousin, Evy Shaw, from Adams-Friendship, is the toughest individual I’ve played against. We’ve played multiple soccer matches against each other throughout high school. She is very fast, incredibly strong, and has the potential to take over a soccer game at any time."

Most Admired High School Teammate (and why): "The teammate I admire most is Clara Kubis. She was a senior when I was a freshman on the soccer team and she truly left her mark on the program. She consistently put in great effort at every practice and game and always brought positive energy to the team."

College Plans: "Looking to the future, my plan is to attend UW-Madison and pursue a degree in business."

Activities Outside of Sports: "My favorite activity outside of sports is being on a boat on a warm sunny day.  I love to ski, tube, swim, or just relax on the boat, listening to music, and enjoying the sunshine."

Favorite Musical Artist: "I enjoy country music, and my favorite artist is Luke Combs."

Favorite Subject: "My favorite subject has always been math, but that recently changed when I started Calculus!"

Other Family Members: "My parents are Matt and Shannon Shaw and I have two older siblings, Ellie and Ryan, and one younger sister, Taylor."
