Bangor (21-5) claimed the Scenic Bluffs championship with an unblemished record. Royall (25-3) took second, going 12-2, and reached a Division 5 sectional semifinal, falling to Cochrane-Fountain City, 46-31. Finishing in third place was Cashton (20-7, 9-5), followed by Brookwood (14-12, 6-8) and Hillsboro (8-17, 6-8). Closing out the standings, Wonewoc-Center (10-11, 5-9), New Lisbon (6-19, 4-10), and Necedah (1-21, 0-14).

Players to Watch
Brooklynn Bolton, sr., Wonewoc-Center – Bolton, a 5-6 guard, averaged 11.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game as a junior for the Wolves.
Carmen Erickson, sr., Hillsboro – Erickson, a guard/forward, was named first-team all-Scenic Bluffs last season, averaging 17.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game for the Tigers.
Anna Fronk, sr., Bangor – Fronk, a 5-7 guard, averaged 19.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 4.6 steals per game en route to being named first-team all-Scenic Bluffs and WBCA all-state. The NCAA Division II Sioux Falls recruit shot 82-for-183 from 3-point land. Entering the season, Fronk had 1,071 points and has helped lead the Cardinals to a 67-15 record.
Bria Gruen, jr., Royall – Gruen, a guard, will take on a leading role for the Panthers. She tallied 9.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 4.2 steals per contest last season, earning second-team all-league.
Kennedy Hamilton, jr., Bangor – Hamilton tallied 9.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, earning second-team all-conference for the Scenic Bluffs champions.
Aubrey Langrehr, sr., Bangor – Langrehr, a 5-8 guard, was named first-team all-conference last season, averaging 12.1 points and 1.8 steals per game for the league champions. Aubrey also made 35 of 97 from behind the arc. She is committed to NCAA Division III Northwestern, St. Paul.
Taylor Lindley-Schendel, sr., Cashton – Lindley-Schendel, a forward, averaged 11.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season, receiving first-team all-Scenic Bluffs for the Eagles.
Ruby Muehlenkamp, jr., Brookwood – Muehlenkamp, a 5-6 guard, will take on a leading role this season. She averaged 12.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game last season, earning second-team all-conference.
Abby Steele, sr., New Lisbon – Steele, a 5-7 forward, received second-team all-Scenic Bluffs last season, averaging 12.9 points, 10 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.8 steals per game.
2024-25 Team Previews
1) Bangor, 11-time defending Scenic Bluffs champions, is the clear favorite in 2024-25. The Cardinals returned three starters from last year’s squad which went unbeaten in the conference and reached a Division 4 regional final, ending the season with a 21-5 record. Merlin Jones has a 270-84 record in 14 years at the helm, which includes guiding Bangor to the Division 5 WIAA state championship in 2018. Coach Jones told WSN that they returned 10 players who saw some varsity minutes last season. “Our depth of our bench will allow us to keep players fresh and ready to go.” Coach Jones noted that their weaknesses include size and rebounding. “ We are very guard-heavy this year and will have to rely on speed and transition points.” Anna Fronk, a D-II Sioux Falls recruit, headlines the roster for the Cardinals, leading the team in all major statistical categories last season. Aubrey Langrehr also returns as a double-digit scorer, and Kennedy Hamilton and Kiera Cavadini are other notable returnees for the Cardinals. Bangor has a notable win over Milwaukee Academy of Science in the early season. They opened the year with a loss to Neillsville, a team they could meet in the postseason as they are in the same half-sectional. The other half of their sectional includes Cuba City and Mineral Point, amongst others.

2) Hillsboro brought back three starters from last year’s team which finished 6-8 in the league and 8-17 overall. Osseo-Fairchild grad Brooke Freitag, who played collegiately at UW-Oshkosh, was hired as the program’s new leader in the offseason. The Tigers’ returning group is headlined by Carmen Erickson, fourth in the Scenic Bluffs in scoring last season. Alaina Clark and Alexis Downing also return as starters.

3) Royall has a revamped starting five after the graduation of four starters, including Scenic Bluffs Player of the Year Marah Gruen, from last year’s team which went 12-2 in the league and advanced to a D5 sectional, ending the year 25-3 overall. Andrew Dahlen, who has a 235-129 record in 16 years as head coach, told WSN their strengths include work ethic and attitudes. He noted that size, depth, and varsity experience are weaknesses. The Panthers will build around Bria Gruen, the lone holdover from last year’s starting lineup. Layla Marty is among those who will take on expanded roles this season.

4) Cashton graduated three starters from last year’s squad which finished 9-5 in the conference and 20-7 overall. Steve Huntzicker, fifth year as the head coach, told WisSports.net that while returning two starters, four others had extensive playing time. Coach Huntzicker said their defense and depth are strengths. Taylor Lindley-Schendel, the team’s top scorer last season, highlights the Eagles’ returning group. Other key top returnees include Lauren Huntzicker and Marlee Schroeder.

5) Brookwood returned two starters from last year’s team which went 6-8 in the Scenic Bluffs and 14-12 overall. Travis Anderson, 21-30 in two years as the girls’ coach of the Falcons, told WisSports.net that team chemistry, positive attitudes, and work ethic are strengths. Ruby Muehlenkamp, second on the team in scoring last season, will move into a featured role. Reagan Muehlenkamp also returns as a starter for the Falcons.

6) Wonewoc-Center brought back three starters from its 2023-24 team which finished 5-9 in the Scenic Bluffs and 10-11 overall. Rick Field, who entered the year with a 69-143 record in 12 years at the helm, told WSN that they have five experienced seniors. Coach Field noted that depth is a weakness. Brooklynn Bolton, the team’s leading scorer last season, leads the group of returning players for the Wolves. Emma Mildbrand and Olivia Olson also return as starters.

Tasha Ragan, sixth year at the helm, told WSN that their strengths include speed and an improved basketball IQ while lack of size is a weakness. Abby Steele, fifth in the league in scoring last season, highlights the roster for the Rockets.
