Below are some of the top moments, statistical nights, and more from the front half of this week in boys basketball.

Monday, January 6

Brody Olson, Glenwood City
Olson was locked in from the jump in Glenwood City's 81-53 victory over Lake Holcombe. The the 6-7 junior recorded a triple-double in the victory, effecting the game in a magnitude of ways. Olson finished with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 15 assists while shooting 11 of 19 from the field.

Kickapoo 74, Wonewoc-Center 44
Junior Malachi McCauley led the Panthers in scoring in this blowout win. He scored a career high 26 points in the win, shooting 11 of 18 from the field, including four of eight from deep. Big man Arlon Walter cleaned up the boards for Kickapoo as he finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Jase Navis, Mauston
Navis plays with poise beyond his freshman standing and displayed that feel for the game in Mauston's 79-41 win over Montello. The 6-5 freshman finished with 38 points in the victory, a new career and his third 30-plus point performance in his first nine varsity games.

Zeke Zuberbuhler, Darlington
Zuberbuhler had a career night in terms of scoring as Darlington picked up its third impressive win in as many games, defeating Platteville 73-53. The sophomore guard poured in a career high 33 points in the win, shooting 12 of 20 from the field and going 4 of 7 from deep. He added eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

Brody Graetz, River Falls
Graetz filled the stat sheet at River Falls had an impressive 84-69 victory over Prescott on Monday night. The junior guard went 12 of 20 from the field and 5 of 10 from deep en route to a high of 34 points in his prep tenure. Graetz wasn't just a proficient scorer as he added seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Tuesday, January 8

Osceola 78, Amery 69
Osceola had just two wins coming into this matchup with one-loss Amery. The Chieftains pulled off one of the bigger upsets of the night, handing Amery its second loss in the Middle Border. Leading the way for Osceola was junior Hunter Bradway who had 26 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Junior Waylon Cole added 18 points and eight rebounds while fellow junior Caleb Irlbeck had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Austin Freeman, Belmont
Freeman posted his fifth double-double in ten games this season in Belmont's 61-56 loss to Cassville on Tuesday. Just a freshman, he scored 24 points and hauled in 14 rebounds for the Braves. Freeman is averaging 15.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while shooting over 51% from the field.

Brookfield Central 76, Germantown 61
Germantown was the sixth-ranked team in Division 1 coming into this contest, but the battle tested Lancers came out on top with the impressive win. Senior Anthony Rise led all scorers with 23 points, adding 11 rebounds and five assists. Junior guard Evan Prusko added a cool 22 while shooting 6 of 9 from the field and 8 of 8 at the free throw line. 6-8 junior Henry Gruetzmacher dominated down low for Brookfield, tallying 17 points and 13 rebounds on 8 of 10 shooting.

Holmen 81, Chippewa Falls 55
Holmen is a team that you can't let get comfortable and in a groove from deep. That was the case in this one as the Vikings knocked home 15 of 31 shots from deep. Alex Berget led all scorers with 20 points and two three pointers. Kaiden Wilber and Jayden Bartels both scored in double figures as well.

Clear Lake 74, Grantsburg 73
Both of these teams came into this one undefeated in the Lakeland-West conference with Grantsburg being one of 19 undefeated teams overall in the state. Clear Lake took over sole possession at the top of the standings with this win, handing the Pirates their first loss of the season.

Cameron Lipinski, Cochrane-Fountain City
CFC is undefeated this season and Lipinski has been a key reason why. In the Pirates' 73-41 win over Gilmanton/Independence, the senior guard poured in 31 points on 12 of 17 shooting. He was 7 of 12 from beyond the arc.

Jackson Trussoni, De Soto
Trussoni had a career high as De Soto knocked off Bangor 67-53 on Tuesday. The junior poured in 26 points on 9 of 11 shooting. Trussoni added six rebounds and three assists.

Fond du Lac 69, Appleton North 51
Appleton North came into this game on a five game win streak that included wins over Oshkosh North, Brookfield Central, and Eau Claire Memorial. Fondy halted that momentum in its tracks in this one. The Cardinals improved to 5-1 in the FVA and are now tied at the top with just Kaukauna. Fond du Lac started the year on a three-game skid but since has played lights out defense and won seven of eight games, allowing 53.4 points per game during this stretch.

Cale Buboltz, Sheboygan North
Buboltz has been the catalyst this season for a Sheboygan North team that is 9-1 and ranked in the WSN Division 1 Coaches Poll. In a 69-58 win over Green Bay Preble, the senior guard finished with 20 points. In the process, Buboltz surpassed the 1,000 point milestone for his prep career.

Keegan Van Kauwenberg, Kaukauna
Van Kauwenberg, like Buboltz mentioned above, surpassed the 1,000 point mark in his prep career leading Kaukauna to an 85-49 win over Oshkosh West. The UW-Green Bay commit had a game high 29 points while knocking down five of ten shots from deep. He added five assists and three steals in the win. For the season, Van Kauwenberg is averaging 21.2 points per game and shooting 41% from three.

Laconia 54, Lomira 45
In a matchup of two very good teams out of the Flyway conference, Laconia handed Lomira its first loss of the season. The Spartans improved to 8-1 on the season and were led in this one by 15 points from Nick Blank. The Spartan defense was suffocating, holding the Lions to season low 45 points.

Jaydon Awe, Stevens Point
It has been over a full calendar year since Awe took the court for a varsity hoops game in the state. The last time he did so was for Pacelli in a game in December of 2023. The transfer sat out the first half of this season due to the transfer rule and made his debut with the Panthers last night in a 63-52 win over Merrill. The 6-7 senior had 16 points in the victory.

Menomonee Falls 72, Marquette University 71
It's been a few days since we've had a buzzer-beating game-winner in the state. Enter Anthony Ness of Menomonee Falls. Down two with just over a second left, Ness took a handoff, dribbled once, and buried the game-winner from twenty feet.

Slinger 88, Nicolet 85
In a showdown of two top ten teams in Division 2, this game lived up to the billing. Slinger led nearly the entire way as Nicolet made a late push to make this one close. Leading the way for Slinger were the Kohnen brothers. Sophomore Jack had a team high 32 points while freshman Joey added 23 for the Owls. For Nicolet, NJIT commit David Bolden had a game high 33 points.

Kamden Kroll, Northwestern
Kroll set a new career high in points in Northwestern's 77-64 win over Ladysmith. The 6-3 sophomore poured in 30 points in the victory for the Tigers, a huge win in terms of Heart O'North implications.

Zay Mitchell, Oshkosh North
Mitchell's scoring this season has improved to an uncanny level for the Spartans. It was needed in an 86-76 win over Kimberly. The Iowa State commit set a new career high in the win, scoring a eye-popping 52 points.

Emmitt Huhn, Saint Mary's Springs
Huhn poured in a new career high as Springs recorded a 77-33 win over North Fond du Lac. The 6-7 senior forward had 35 points for the Ledgers, who sit atop the Flyway standings.

Mohammad Badwan, Salam
52 points by Zay Mitchell seemed to be the high for the night in the state, but Badwan had different thoughts. The 6-2 sophomore scored 53 points in Salam's 94-61 win over Faith Christian. His output is tied for second most points scored in a game this season in the state.

Kyler Marks, Seymour
Seymour needed all of Marks career high 32 points in its 79-68 win over Sturgeon Bay on Tuesday. The junior forward scored 31 last season and that had been his high until Marks caught fire in this one.

Hillsboro 56, Viroqua 53
The bank has been open in Hillsboro this season. In the Tigers opening win over Kickapoo, senior Jerry Von Falkenstein banked in a three at the buzzer to win it. Last night, Hillsboro needed some magic to force overtime. Freshman Braun Jirschele gathered a fumbled pass, turned on the spot, and banked in a 25-footer to force the overtime period.

Ty Roehm, Luck
Roehm joined a pretty elite group on Tuesday night in the Cardinal's 72-58 loss to Webster. The senior had 15 points and 17 rebounds in the loss. Roehm surpassed 1,000 rebounds in his career. He surpassed the 1,000 point mark last season. Not many end their prep careers as 1,000 point scorers and 1,000 rebounders.

Thursday, January 9

Broker Buschor, Darlington
Buschor and the Darlington boys team continued on its roll with an 84-47 win over Boscobel in a SWAL matchup on Thursday night. The 6-3 junior poured in a high of 31 points, the most in his prep playing time. He was five of eight from deep and added 12 rebounds and four assists.

Gavin McRoberts, Melrose-Mindoro
McRoberts led the Mustangs to a 72-61 victory over Eleva-Strum on Thursday night. The son of head coach Jason McRoberts, Gavin is just a freshman starting for the Melrose team. He had 23 points while going 11 of 13 from the free throw line in the win. McRoberts added 9 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. For the season, Gavin is averaging 14.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists through his first nine varsity games.

Freedom 75, Fox Valley Lutheran 60
Freedom asserted its dominance atop the North Eastern conference in this one. With back-to-back wins over top contenders Little Chute and now Fox Valley Lutheran, the Irish have positioned themselves well going into the heart of January. Sophomore Donovan Davis finished with a team high 23 points and 16 rebounds. Senior Drew Kortz added 21 points and 6 assists while Kaden Vandenberg had 16 points for the Irish.

Ethan Kniseley, Blair-Taylor
Kniseley needed just one field goal to surpass the 1,000 point mark in Blair-Taylor's 55-44 win over Gilmanton/Independence. The senior guard finished with 16 points, five rebounds, four steals, and two assists.

Grantsburg 73, Luck 67
Grantsburg improved to 7-1 by outlasting Luck in this one. Jayden Brown led all scorers with 31 points, adding 13 rebounds in the win. Caleb Rombach added 21 points and 5 assists for the Pirates. Daxter Schultz had 15 points and Dylan Seeger had 17 rebounds for Grantsburg.

Wauwatosa West 73, Marquette University 63
Tosa West held off a pesky and young Marquette group on Thursday night thanks in large part to a 30-point output from senior Jake Hansen, who knocked down four three-point shots and was 10 of 11 from the free throw line. Both Jalen Brown and Matthew Kloskey scored 18 points and recorded double-doubles for the Trojans.

Josh Manchester, Mount Horeb
Manchester continued his torrid scoring in a matchup of the two previously undefeated teams in the Badger-Small. The Vikings downed McFarland 77-64 and improved to 10-0 on the year. Manchester finished with a game high 37 points.

Middleton 88, Sun Prairie East 74
The Cardinals of Sun Prairie East came into this one with just one loss and ranked fifth in Division 1 in the WSN Coaches Poll. Middleton however has gotten a jolt of energy and production as Wisconsin commit and 7-0 senior Will Garlock returned to the lineup. The Cardinals of Middleton got a big win on Thursday night and improved to 3-0 since Garlock returned to the lineup.

Vaughn Karvala, Oregon
Oregon needed all of Karvala's 39 points to hold off Monona Grove 64-61 on Thursday night. The 6-7 junior was a missed free throw away from 40 points, finishing with 39 points while making four of seven from deep. Karvala added 16 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.

Jameson Beaman, Oconto Falls
Beaman was lights out from deep as he led Falls to a 66-57 win over Denmark. The junior went seven of ten from deep for the Panthers and finished with a game high 29 points. Beaman added eight rebounds in the win.

Cochrane-Fountain City 67, Osseo-Fairchild 59
In a battle of two unbeatens, this matchup went the distance. The Pirates came out victorious as four different players finished in double figures. It was a balanced offensive night for head coach Jesse Cyrus' group that improved to 9-0 on the year.

Camden Schurk, Pacelli
A week after becoming the school's all-time leading scorer, Schurk continued to roll as Pacelli beat Pittsville 61-34. The senior wing finished with a game high 31 points and added 10 rebounds in the victory.

Amare Hereford, Beloit Memorial
There's a new all-time leading scorer in Beloit Memorial boys basketball history and its junior Amare Hereford. One of the most electric players in the state, Hereford finished with 35 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists in the Purple Knights 86-75 win over Wilmot. Hereford sits at 1,135 points and could hit 2,000 by the conclusion of his senior season.

Friday, January 10

Appleton North 75, Kaukauna 74
It was a night to remember for Appleton North junior Nathan Ramus. The 6-2 poured in a career high 42 points for the Lightning and was lights out shooting the ball from deep, going 10 of 14 from beyond the three-point line. None were more important than his final make. With around twelve seconds left, Ramus created space, stepped back and buried his tenth three of the night. On the ensuing Kaukauna possession, Ramus jumped a Ghost's spin move, stole the ball and secured the win for North.

Jameson Beaman, Oconto Falls
Beaman has scored at an extremely high rate this season and that continued in a 68-50 win over Coleman.  The junior guard poured in a career high 41 points while making 8 of 15 shots from deep for the Panthers. He added eight rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks. For the season, Beaman has scored 30-plus points in ten of his eleven games played.

Aiden Fischer, Colfax
Fischer paced the Vikings in scoring in their 70-53 win over Plum City/Elmwood on Friday night. The 6-0 senior recorded his fourth 30-plus point game in the win, scoring 32 points while adding seven rebounds and five steals.

Gavin Gores, Cumberland
Gores is an extremely tough matchup when he takes the floor and has been dominant this season for the Beavers. The 6-10 Wyoming commit poured in his eighth straight 30-plus point game and tenth straight double-double in a 61-48 win over Saint Croix Falls. Gores finished with 35 points and 16 rebounds. He's averaging 35.3 points and 14.1 rebounds per game.

De Pere 83, Ashwaubenon 82
Two ranked teams from the same conference squared off in front of a sold out 1,500-plus crowd on Friday night and did not disappoint. De Pere came away victorious in the first of two matchups between these teams. Senior and Wisconsin commit Zach Kinziger was the catalyst down the stretch. He finished with a team high 33 points and made shot after shot in the final minutes of the game. Pryce Gregorie finished with 23 points for the Redbirds while Roan Demovsky had 11, though he made a key steal at the end of the game that all but clinched the win.

Amari Allen once again dominated despite a Jaguars loss. The Alabama commit effects the game in so many ways. He finished with a game high 43 points while adding 12 rebounds and 9 assists.

Racine Lutheran 79, Dominican 76
Lutheran stayed undefeated after knocking off Metro Classic foe Dominican in this highly contested matchup. Lutheran is extremely balanced and hard to game plan for. The Crusaders make things difficult defensively and have a variety of players who can score. In this one, Sam Pitrof, Justin Jones, Isaiah Cosey, and Michael Prett-Hassan all scored in double figures.

For Dominican, senior and Syracuse commit Aaron Womack III led all scorers with 32 points. The Knights will have another chance at the Crusaders as the two teams will square off for a second time on February 11.

Eau Claire Memorial 39, Rice Lake 38
This was a defensive battle between the two lone undefeated teams in the Big Rivers. Rice Lake came in undefeated overall, but the Old Abes dropped them from that list with this one-point win. Both teams did a great job of containing the playmakers on each side as Memorial's Wesley Mboga led all scorers with 13.

Johnson Creek 55, Palmyra-Eagle 48
Johnson Creek handed Palmyra-Eagle its first loss of the season in this Trailways-South matchup. The Bluejays were just 4-4 coming into this one but got their biggest win of the season. Junior Brady Fincutter had a team high 17 points for Johnson Creek as both senior Tanner Herman and sophomore Kace Freimund added 15 and 11 respectively.

New London 77, Menasha 76
Brett Marquardt brought the fireworks in this Bay Conference matchup. Down one with time expiring, the junior guard took the ball on the baseline, rose up and hit the game-winning jump shot. He finished with 10 points for the Bulldogs. Joseph Daly led all scorers with 36 points and 15 rebounds for New London.

Ahmir Woods, Golda Meir
Woods came into the Friday night matchup with Riverside 19 points shy of 1,000 career points for Golda Meir. Golda Meir came away with an 86-74 win, and Woods surpassed that milestone.

Devin Isaj, Greendale
Isaj has been a tear lately, scoring the ball at a high rate and leading Greendale to a three game win streak. One of the top unsigned seniors in the state, Isaj led all scorers with 40 points in Greendale's 89-60 win over New Berlin Eisenhower on Friday night.

Cade Dirkse, Oostburg
The reigning player of the year in the Big East-South came into Friday night's matchup with Sheboygan Christian needing just one point to surpass 1,000 career points. He hit that mark as he led the Flying Dutchmen to a 66-46 win.

Aiden Crane, Parkview
Crane had himself a night as Parkview took care of Madison Country Day 92-62. The junior guard set a program record for points in a game, pouring in 52 in the victory. Crane made eight three-point attempts in the win and is now averaging 26.8 points per game.

Lucas Ludlum, Platteville
Ludlum hit a milestone in his prep career while leading the Hillmen to a big SWC conference win over Lancaster. The senior wing poured in 20 points and 11 rebounds in Platteville's 69-58 victory. A very good defender as well, Ludlum is the reigning Player of the Year in the conference. In this one, he surpassed 1,000 points during his playing time with the Hillmen.

Logan Sipple, Shawano
Sipple has been a bright spot all season for the struggling Shawano boys hoops squad. The Bemidji State commit hit a personal milestone Friday night in an 86-57 loss to Seymour. Sipple hit 1,000 career points ten games into his senior year.

Drew Daoust, Southern Door
Daoust continues to ascend the all-time scoring list in state history while simultaneously leading the Eagles to wins. In Southern Door's 74-37 victory over Gibraltar, the senior wing finished with 29 points and 11 rebounds. He passed 2024 Pius XI Catholic graduate Jaquan Johnson and now sits eighth in the all-time ranks.

Cade Stasiek, Spring Valley
Stasiek filled the stat sheet in Spring Valley's 66-62 victory over Elk Mound. The senior guard paced all scorers with 28 while shooting six of eleven from deep. He added ten rebounds, seven assists, and three steals for the 7-1 Cardinals.

Jake Farley, Saint Thomas Aquinas
Farley came two steals shy of a triple-double in STAA's 68-47 victory over Wausaukee. The sophomore guard had a career high 35 points while making five of seven shots from deep. Farley added ten rebounds, eight steals, three assists, and two blocks.

Sam Berruecos, Westfield
Berruecos is one of five players to have surpassed 1,000 career points on this Friday night of hoops. The senior guard poured in 24 points in Westfield's 62-44 win over Nekoosa. He now sits at exactly 1,000 points on varsity.

Saturday, January 11

Miles Schmidgall, Fall Creek
Schmidgall has been excellent so far in his sophomore season with Fall Creek. That continued in the Cricket's 62-42 win over Black River Falls. The 6-7 forward paced all scorers with 22 on eight of twelve shooting. He added 19 rebounds and four blocks. It's the seventh double-double in eight games for Schmidgall who is averaging 16.8 points and 13.2 rebounds per game.

Tyler Tiutczenko, Pewaukee
Pewaukee traveled to Minnesota over the weekend to take on Edina in a out-of-state matchup. The Pirates walked away with an 89-64 win as Tiutczenko lit it up from deep. The 6-7 junior wing finished with a team high 30 points and eight rebounds as he shot 10 of 14 from the field and 8 of 11 from beyond the arc.

Marshfield 66, Hudson 51
Marshfield got its second impressive win in as many days in this one over Hudson. Junior Chris Pohl made his debut with Marshfield this season and had 15 points. Senior lead guard Landon Lee led all scorers with 19 while Brooks Hinson and Valin Ramberg all added double-digit points.

Luke Paddock, Elkhorn
Paddock led the Elkhorn boys team to a quality 68-58 win over Monona Grove on Saturday afternoon. Paddock finished with a career high 30 points in the win, going 11 of 12 from the free throw line. He added five rebounds and four assists.

Sam Wegener, Clintonville
A month ago Wegener and the Clintonville team went to Shiocton for a non-conference matchup. Early in the game, the senior wing threw down a monstrous dunk that caused the backboard to shatter and the game to be postponed. That game finished today as Shiocton came away the winner 67-61. Wegener finished with a game high 31 points in this contest.

Dominican 87, Lodi 83
Dominican had a grueling matchup Friday night with Racine Lutheran and followed it up with this double-overtime thriller with Lodi in the #swingfam Showcase at Waunakee High School. After scoring 32 on Friday, Aaron Womack III poured in a game high 37 for Dominican in this one.

For Lodi, Theo Traeder led his team with 36 points.
