Triple Threat Athlete of the Week: Aeryn Messmann, Jefferson

The Triple Threat Athlete of the Week is an honor given on WisSports.net to the top senior boys and girls three-sport athletes in the state. Players are recognized each week on WSN, with a boys and girls winner of the Pat Richter Award at the end of the season to the best three-sport athlete of the year.

The Triple Threat Athlete of the Week is presented by the U.S. Marine Corps. The award recognizes student athletes who embody the spirit of teamwork, perseverance, and discipline across multiple sports. The mission of Marine Corps Recruiting Station Milwaukee is to find qualified men and women in Wisconsin and the surrounding area interested in becoming a United States Marine. Marines maintain the legacy of the Marine Corps by winning our nations battles and returning to their communities as quality citizens whether they are active duty or reservist. The coveted title of Marine applies only to those who graduate from the Recruit Depots or Officer Candidate School. RS Milwaukee will provide any qualified man or woman the opportunity to attend the training required to become a Marine - Enlisted or Officer.

Tennis Honors: Four-year letter-winner for coaches Paul Ganser and Jessica Punzel... state qualifier in #1 doubles as a junior and senior... second-place finish in the Rock Valley as a junior... first in the conference as a senior... first-team all-conference as a junior and senior... coaches award as a junior and senior... senior captain... Rock Valley Co-Player of the Year as a senior... 

Basketball Honors: Entered her senior year as a three-year letter-winner for the Eagles... WBCA Academic All-State as a junior... the 5-5 guard averages 3.5 points, 2.2 assists, and 1.9 steals per game for coach Brent Schacht and the Eagles, 5-6 overall and 2-4 in the Rock Valley... 

Softball Honors: Enters her senior year as a three-year letter-winner for coach Jeff Agnew and the Eagles... as a freshman, was named first-team all-Rock Valley, WFSCA all-district, and WFSCA second-team all-state as a pitcher... helped Jefferson finish as the Division 2 state runner-up as a freshman... named one of the top 70 Wisconsin High School Players for 2023 by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel... as a sophomore, was named second-team all-conference and served as a team captain... junior year was selected first-team all-conference, WFSCA honorable mention all-district... 

Favorite Sport (and why): "Tennis was my favorite sport in high school because it was a fun relaxing sport. Even though tennis was a new sport to me during my freshman year, I was able to compete competitively while having fun and it wasn’t a stressful time playing. The best part was that I got to be a doubles partner with my best friend all four years."

Best Part of High School Sports (and why): "High school sports were fun to play because of the student cheering sections. They give me energy while I’m playing and also are fun to be a part of to support other teams."

Best Advice from a High School Coach: "My tennis coach, Coach Ganser, told me and my tennis doubles partner to stop laughing while playing because we never looked intimidating."

Most Memorable Moment in High School Sports: "Pitching a no-hitter my freshman year in the game to get to the state tournament."

Best Part of Playing Three Sports: "I enjoy being busy and it keeps me in shape."

Most Difficult Part of Playing Three Sports: "Going season to season and not having breaks in between sports. Always having something to do after school and managing your time to do your homework and study."

Favorite Opponent (and why): "Fort Atkinson because it is our rival school and the games are always intense and fun."

Favorite Professional Team: Milwaukee Brewers 

Favorite Professional Athlete: Rob Gronkowski “Gronk”

Favorite College Team: Notre Dame

Toughest Individual You’ve Competed Against (and why): "I played basketball against Teagan Mallegni from McFarland during my sophomore and junior years. She was extremely talented and difficult to guard."

Most Admired High School Teammate (and why): "I was lucky to have my older sister, Aidyn, as my catcher for my freshman softball season. She gave me the confidence I needed to pitch my best and we helped our team get to the state tournament." 

College Plans: "To attend UW-La Crosse and study secondary education."

Activities Outside of Sports: "I like to hunt deer and pheasants with my family. I also enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors. A few of my favorite vacations were camping in the mountains in Colorado and traveling to France and Spain."
