Favorite Sport (and why): "My favorite sport is basketball. I believe that basketball requires the most athleticism of any sport. It also requires five girls working together on offense and defense as one mind. When that comes together, it is truly beautiful."
Best Part of High School Sports (and why): "Working hard in practice and being able to see the results on the court, field, course, and track. It is inspiring to work with teammates and create such a strong bond that translates when playing in games."
Best Advice from a High School Coach: "The best advice I received from a high school coach was from Coach Bob Wellenstein, who said: 'You have the ability to be an amazing leader and people look up to you so you can’t ever have an off day. The effort and attitude you bring to the court determines the energy of other players. Even when you are a freshman again next year, play with the mentality that your energy affects everyone, and don’t ever let it get down'."
Most Memorable Moment in High School Sports: "Knocking down free throws at the end of the game to beat Arrowhead (this season), and being on the line just before the clock expired."
Best Part of Playing Three (Four, Five?) Sports: "The best part of playing multiple sports is the connection with teammates that is built throughout seasons and over the years. I have made lifelong friends on all of my sports teams and have loved every minute of playing with them."
Most Difficult Part of Playing Three (Four, Five?) Sports: "The most difficult thing about playing four sports (or five if you count football) is finding balance. I also have an internship with an amazing dentist, and between work, homework, and sports there is not a lot of downtime. So I eat a lot of dinners at my desk, and have to spend time planning my days and weeks out to make sure everything fits together."
Favorite Opponent (and why): "It’s Arrowhead. They are the best of the Classic 8 in so many sports, and my grandfather, great-uncle, and cousins were all Warhawks. My grandfather and great-uncle played basketball for Al Vandertie. My grandfather played center, starting as a sophomore for both the football and basketball teams, and went back to every homecoming until he passed away. I believe his name is on Coach Vandertie’s Hall of Fame plaque, and they made it to sectionals in the early 1960’s. My great uncle has a great funny story about how Coach Vandertie asked him if he played 'roundball'. When my great uncle said “no,” Coach Vandertie said 'you do if you want to pass this class!' As you can image, Arrowhead games spark a lot of great conversations in our house, and I always look forward to them."
Favorite Professional Team: "My favorite professional team is the Milwaukee Bucks."
Favorite Professional Athlete: "My favorite player by far is Sabrina Ionescu. I love her game as a guard and try to replicate it as much as possible when I am on the court."
Favorite College Team: "My favorite college team is Marquette men’s basketball. I love watching Shaka Smart coach his players with such intensity and passion and see how well they respond to it."
Cumulative GPA: 4.135
Toughest Individual You’ve Competed Against (and why): "It’s Natalie Kussow from Arrowhead. She is an amazing player – one of the best in the nation – and honestly, I look forward to playing against her because it is truly a measuring stick for my own game."
Most Admired High School Teammate (and why): "My most admired teammate is Jenna Welsch. She has been a role model to me since freshman year and is someone I look up to. Jenna goes hard at practice and always challenges her teammates, working to make everyone better."
College Plans: "I have committed to play basketball at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, and am excited to play for Coach Megan Lueck. I received an academic merit scholarship and am a Presidential Scholarship recipient. I was fortunate to be directly admitted to the nursing program as a freshman (one of 10-12 spots) and plan on attending medical school. St. Olaf has a 72% acceptance rate to medical school, which puts it in the upper echelon of colleges."
Activities Outside of Sports: "My grandmother is a librarian, and I have had books in my hand as long as I can remember. I love to read. I also like art projects and music and spending time up north. I have also gone fly fishing for trout with my father and enjoy that a lot."
Favorite TV Show: Grey's Anatomy has been my favorite TV show since I was young because I always dreamed of being a doctor."
Favorite Movie: Goodwill Hunting
Favorite Musical Artist: "My favorite artist is Riley Green. I was able to attend one of his concerts this past summer and it was one of the best experiences I have had with my family."
Favorite Subject: "My favorite subject is science, specifically chemistry. I took two years of chemistry and loved working through equations and labs."
Favorite Restaurant: "My favorite restaurant is Noodles and Company. I don’t think I have ever ordered anything but their mac and cheese every time I go."
Favorite Website/App: "My favorite app is Pinterest because I think of myself as a crafty individual and the app gives me tons of inspiration."
Other Family Members: "I have a sister named Addie who is a sophomore at CMH. My mom and dad are Amy and Henry."
