Athlete of the Week Nominees: January 27 - February 2

Drew Daoust, Southern Door

In one week, Daoust climbed from fourth to second on the all-time career scoring leaderboards in boys high school basketball in the state of Wisconsin. Tuesday in an 86-61 win over Peshtigo the senior wing scored 33 points, shooting 6 of 9 from deep, and adding 11 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists. Daoust passed 1993 Elkhart Lake graduate Mike Koehler for third all-time with that output. The UW-Stevens Point commit then had 27 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists in a 68-43 win over Brillion. With that output, Daoust passed 1975 JFK Prep graduate Mickey Crowe for second all-time on the list. He finished his week off with 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists in a 68-52 win over Sevastopol. Daoust sits at 2,747 career points and though the top spot overall seems out of reach, he has a very good chance to become just the second player in boys basketball to reach 3,000 career points in Wisconsin high school basketball.

Makaela Reinke, Superior

Reinke was spectacular on the ice for the Superior Spartans girls hockey team this past week and she helped the team to a 3-1 record. In a 5-2 win over Duluth, the senior forward netted a hat trick for the Spartans. She followed that up with two goals and three assists in a 10-0 shutout of the Coulee Region Cyclones. Reinke finished the week with two goals and one assist in a 9-0 win over the Rock County Fury. For the season, Reinke leads the state in 53 points scored and 37 goals netted.

Haddie Showen, Westfield

Showen led Westfield to three wins this past week and now sit undefeated, alone atop the South Central standings. The 5-10 senior guard began her week with 26 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 assists, and a block in a 58-44 win over Wisconsin Dells in a South Central showdown. The NCAA Division II Northern Michigan then had 36 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals, and a block in an 84-40 win over Baraboo on Thursday. Showen finished her week with 30 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals, and a block in a 77-15 win over Wautoma. Showen surpassed the 1,500 point and 500 assist mark over the week in her prep career.

Anna Terrian, Pewaukee

Terrian played exceptionally as she helped a Pewaukee team to a 2-0 week including a win in the top matchup in the state for the entire week. To begin the week the Michigan State commit poured in 22 points, 6 steals, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds in a 72-29 win over Whitnall. She was six of ten from the field including four of eight from deep. The 5-9 senior guard then stepped up and had her best game of the season in the biggest matchup. The Pirates, ranked third in Division 1, squared off with Division 1 top-ranked, and undefeated, Kimberly in a non-conference tilt on Saturday. Terrian had a season and career high 28 points in the win, knocking down five of twelve from deep. She added 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. Terrian also joined 1,000-point club on Saturday.

Brandon Wagner, Turtle Lake

Wagner had a heck of a week as he led the Turtle Lake boys basketball team to a pair of wins. The Lakers began their week with a showdown with Clear Lake, the lone undefeated team in the Lakeland-West standings. Wagner was absolutely dominant as he led Turtle Lake to the 63-49 win. The 6-6 junior forward finished with a triple-double, tallying 33 points, 18 rebounds, and 10 blocks. He shot 12 of 19 from the field, including 6 of 8 from three and added four assists. Wagner followed that up with 31 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 blocks in a 76-36 win over Siren on Friday.
