Barnevled (12-4; 10-2 in Six Rivers-East) at Argyle (11-4; 9-2 in Six Rivers-East)
The Six Rivers-East conference race is down to these two teams. as all other teams in the conference are four games back in the loss column. Though it's February 3, this is the first matchup of the year between these two squads.
Kewaunee (11-4; 7-1 in Packerland) at Kiel (13-3; 6-3 in Eastern Wisconsin)
A solid non-conference game between these two games in February make for a game to watch on this slow Monday. Kewaunee is 9-1 in its last ten games and is led by four players that average double-figure scoring, including freshman forward Dane Harrell who is averaging 10.3 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. Kiel senior Braeden Aprill recently joined the 1,000 point club and is averaging 20.8 points per game.
Wisconsin Dells (13-3; 6-0 in South Central) at Lodi (11-4; 3-1 in Capitol-North)
This game could have huge implications on seeding in the Division 3, Wisconsin Dells sub-sectional. Both of these teams and Platteville are vying for the top three spots and a head-to-head win could help with their standing. Not only that, it serves as a measuring stick for both in terms of the possible competition level come the postseason.
Lancaster (10-5; 4-2 in SWC) at Mineral Point (14-1; 9-1 in SWAL)
The second place team in the SWC travels to the top team in the SWAL for a classic matchup of old SWAL conference teams. These two squads are in the same sub-sectional come playoff team, so a rematch down the road could be likely. Outside of its loss to Southwestern, the Pointers have been dominant this season behind senior duo Eli Lindsey and Jaxson Wendhausen. Zach Hermsen leads Lancaster and has take a big step forward as junior this year.
D4 #8 Cuba City (13-5; 7-3 in SWAL) at Platteville (13-4; 6-0 in SWC)
Another solid matchup between old SWAL conference opponents makes this a fun matchup to tune into in the southwestern part of the state. Platteville has run rough shot over the league, winning every conference game by 11-plus points. Cuba City had won eight straight before falling in an upset loss to Fennimore last Friday. Both teams play well defensively, so I'd expect a low-scoring affair on this Monday night.
D5 #3 Southwestern (16-3; 7-3 in SWAL) at D5 #8 Potosi (13-2; 11-1 in Six Rivers-West)
Another solid matchup in the southwestern part of the state pits two top-ten teams in Division 5 against one another. Southwestern has won six straight games with three top-ten victories during that streak. Potosi has won 11 straight games and is coming off a nine-point win over Division 5, second-ranked Highland last Thursday.
Pacelli (12-2; 6-1 in CWC-South) at Wittenberg-Birnamwood (12-2; 8-1 in CWC-East)
Two very good teams from different divisions in the CWC make this another solid small school matchup in the state on Monday night. Camden Schurk has led the Cardinals this season averaging 24.4 points per game and leading Pacelli on a nine-game win streak coming into this one. Jett Rogowski is averaging 26.0 points per game for the Chargers who have rattled off seven straight victories.
Oshkosh North (10-8; 6-6 in FVA) at D1 #6 Appleton North (12-4; 9-3 in FVA)
Oshkosh North may be out of the FVA title race, but the Spartans are ready to gear up for the playoff push as we've entered February. They got a big boost to their squad last week as junior forward Bryce Ott returned to the hardwood after missing the first 17 games of the year. Appleton North on the other hand is one game back in the FVA standings and a win keeps the Lightning in the race for league crown.
Onalaska (13-5; 5-3 in MVC) at D4 #4 Aquinas (15-2; 5-2 in MVC)
Two weeks ago Onalaska handed Aquinas its first loss of the season and had control of its own destiny in the MVC. Since, Onalaska has fallen to Holmen and La Crosse Central in league play while Aquinas had one of the more shocking defeats to La Crosse Logan last Thursday, the lone conference win for the Rangers this season. The result is a MVC conference race that is extremely interesting with three teams with two league losses, and Onalaska one game back in the loss column. This matchup has huge league implications as a loss for Onalaska would all but eliminate the Hilltoppers. However a win and an Aquinas loss would muddy it up again at the top.
D1 #2 De Pere (15-1; 11-0 in FRCC) at D2 #5 Ashwaubenon (13-3; 8-3 in FRCC)
The first matchup between these two teams was in front of a sellout crowd hat got all of its money's worth as De Pere pulled out the one-point victory. Zach Kinziger was phenomenal for the Redbirds, finishing with 33 points and taking over the game towards the end. Ashwaubenon's Amari Allen gave the audience a show as well, as he led all scorers with 43 points and came one assist shy of a triple-double. This is sure to be another competitive classic between two of the best teams in the FRCC and the state.
D5 #9 Abundant Life Christian (11-4; 7-0 in Trailways-South) at Deerfield (13-4; 6-1 in Trailways-South)
Deerfield has just one conference loss on the season, an eleven point defeat to this Abundant Life team back on December 6. Senior twins Jacob and Jonah Koon combined for 40 points in that contest and led a Challengers defense that held Deerfield to 54 points. With a win, Deerfield will tie for the league lead, but with a loss, will need outside help in order to get there. Abundant Life would put a two-game lead over the rest of the conference with a win.
Lakeside Lutheran (11-5; 2-2 in Capitol-North) at Elkhorn (10-5; 4-4 in Southern Lakes)
This is a solid non-con matchup between two ten-plus win squads. Lakeside is a contender in Division 3 behind the play of junior forward Wes Rahm. However, the Warriors have lost four of five games, though all have come to ranked opponents. Elkhorn on the other hand is coming off an impressive 17-point win over Beloit Memorial and are an experienced, senior-laden group.
D1 #4 Kaukauna (14-3; 10-2 in FVA) at Hortonville (10-5; 7-5 in FVA)
These two teams were tied atop the FVA standings a few weeks ago, but Hortonville has since dropped three straight in league play. The Polar Bears will look to bounce back in this one against a Kaukauna team that has been surging during the second half of the season. If Hortonville can get a win and stop Kaukauna's momentum, that could go far in getting the Polar Bears back on track.
D1 #10 Sun Prairie East (12-4; 9-2 in Big Eight) at Madison Memorial (12-4; 9-3 in Big Eight)
Two teams that are clearly in the hunt for the Big Eight crown will have a chance to take a further step towards that goal in this matchup. Chris Davis Jr. is the top scorer in the state, averaging over 40 points per game, and has scored 40-plus in four of the past five for the Cardinals. Madison Memorial however held him to his third-lowest output (32 points) in a loss earlier in the year. A loss by Memorial puts them two games behind the leaders in the loss column, which may be too big of a hill to climb.
Flambeau (14-2; 9-1 in Lakeland-East) at New Auburn (11-5; 8-2 in Lakeland-East)
The first matchup between these two squads was a close one, where Flambeau came out on top 61-60. New Auburn sits one game behind the Falcons in the East standings, and can force a tie with a win. With a loss, they'll be two games back of Flambeau.
D5 #2 Sheboygan Lutheran (15-2; 7-1 in Big East-South) at Oostburg (13-4; 8-1 in Big East-South)
These two extremely talented teams are the only two one-loss teams in the Big East-South after Oostburg knocked off Kohler last Friday. The first matchup between these two squads was not a close one as Sheboygan Lutheran won 76-36 in early January. The Crusaders were 32 of 54 from the field and they out-rebounded the Flying Dutchmen 40-18. I'd imagine a much tighter game in this one with conference implications once again on the line.
Columbus Catholic (10-6; 6-2 in Cloverbelt-East) at Owen-Withee (11-4; 6-2 in Cloverbelt-East)
Columbus Catholic lost five starters from a state championship team last year but have reloaded and once again are at the top of the conference standings, tied with this Owen-Withee squad. The Cloverbelt-East conference race is a wild one as five of the seven teams in the league are within one game of each other in the standings. Whichever team comes out victorious in this one will sit alone at the top and in control of its own conference title destiny moving forward.
Franklin (11-6; 6-2 in Southeast) at D2 #3 Racine Park (14-1; 8-0 in Southeast)
Franklin has just two conference losses on the season, one to Racine Park back in December, and one to Racine Case, also in December. The Sabers avenged that loss to Case last Friday in a 14-point win. They'll get a chance to play avenger once again in this one against one of the top teams in the state.
D4 #9 Milwaukee Juneau (10-6; 10-0 in MCC-Gold) at Carmen Northwest (9-8; 6-2 in MCC-Gold)
The two top teams in the Milwaukee City-Gold division headline Wednesday's slate of games. Carmen needs a win in order to stay in the conference race as a loss would mean a three-game deficit in the standings. Dooney Johnson and Takis Tyler lead the way for a Juneau team that has rattled off six straight wins, including a 13-point win over this Carmen team back on January 14.
