Griffin played exceptional as he led Westosha Central to a pair of wins and a regional championship this weekend. The senior point guard notched 22 points on 5 of 5 shooting from the field and 9 of 10 from the free throw line in the Falcon's 81-65 win over West Allis Hale. He added 12 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. Griffin then went off in Central's 67-49 win over Milwaukee King in the regional championship. He finished with 39 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Koch had a weekend of hockey to remember as he led Edgewood to a state championship. Edgewood took top-seed Brookfield East co-op to extra periods on Friday, where Koch netted the game-winning shot with 6:08 left in the third overtime period, securing a 5-4 win. The Crusaders then squared off with Notre Dame in the Division 1 state championship where they won 5-2. Koch finished with two more goals to help Edgewood win its first ever state title in boys hockey.
Lamer did a great job of sharing the puck as Tomahawk captured gold for the first time in boys hockey history. The sophomore forward netted a goal and assisted on another as Tomahawk squeaked by McFarland 3-2 in the semifinals. The Hatchets then met Amery co-op in the Division 2 state title matchup and won 5-3. Lamer accounted for four of those goals, finishing with a goal of his own and three assists.
Spiering was a vacuum in the goal as the Bay Area Ice Bears won two games and a second state title in program history. The sophomore goalie had 9 saves in 51 minutes in the co-op's 4-0 win over Sun Prairie West co-op in the semifinals. She recorded a second straight shutout in the WIAA State Championship over D.C. Everest. Spiering recorded 16 saves without allowing a goal in the 8-0 victory.
Van Vonderen had a solid couple of games with a shot to remember on top as she helped the Papermakers punch their tickets to the girls basketball WIAA State Tournament. Kimberly pulled out a thrilling 56-55 win over Hartford in the sectional semifinals on Thursday. The sophomore post had 13 points and 7 rebounds for Kimberly. They then squared off with Pewaukee in a sectional final game that was must watch TV. The Papermakers came away with a 48-47 overtime win thanks to a moment from Van Vonderen. With less than a second left, she got a second chance off-balance pass and buried a three at the buzzer in regulation to force overtime. In overtime with under 20 seconds left, she drove the lane, got fouled, and made two free throws that ended up as the game-winning attempts.
