The finalists for the top senior point guard have been selected. The winner will be announced the week after the state tournament.
Jasonya Barnes, 5-8, The Prairie School
Barnes, a finalist for Ms. Basketball, has led the Hawks to WIAA State Tournament appearances the past two seasons. She averages 24.4 points, 10 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.3 steals per game for coach Abby Jaramillo and the Hawks, 26-2 overall heading into their D4 state semifinal against Cuba City. Barnes is shooting 45-for-120 from three-point land. The Marquette University recruit entered the year as a three-time first-team WBCA all-state selection. Barnes has compiled 2,094 points, 832 rebounds, 349 assists, and 220 steals in her career.
Makenzie Luehring, 5-6, Kettle Moraine Lutheran
Luehring led the Chargers to the state tournament as a junior and a sectional appearance as a senior. She averaged 17.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 5.3 steals per game for coach Jason Walz and the Chargers, which finished the year with a 25-2 record, falling to state qualifier Oostburg, 59-49, in a D3 sectional semifinal. Makenzie connected on 51 of 119 from behind the arc. Luehring, an NCAA Division II Lewis University recruit, finished her career with 1,702 points, 418 rebounds, 366 assists, and 473 steals. Makenzie was a first-team WBCA all-state pick last season.
Serinity Metcalfe, 5-7, G, Shorewood
Metcalfe finished second in the state with 38 points per game, netting at least 40 points in eight games and a season high of 53. She also tallied 12.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 5.8 steals per game for coach Vevet Moore-Owen and the 12-12 Greyhounds. Serinity shot 41-for-127 on three-pointers. Metcalfe scored 1,824 points in three years at Shorewood.
Haddie Showen, 5-10, Westfield
Showen led the Pioneers to a Division 4 sectional final appearance as a senior and helped them reach the state tournament as a freshman. As a senior, she averaged 24.9 points (10th in the state), 5.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 3.2 steals per game for coach and father, Luke Showen, and the 24-4 Pioneers. She was among the state leaders in 3-point shooting (77-for-167 46.1%). Showen, an NCAA Division II Northern Michigan recruit, helped Westfield reach the state tournament her freshman year. Haddie, an honorable mention WBCA all-state pick as a junior, finished her career with 1,761 points, 436 rebounds, 533 assists, 290 steals, and made 205 three-pointers.
Amy Terrian, 5-9, Pewaukee
Terrian helped lead the Pirates to three trips to the WIAA State Tournament, including winning the Division 2 state title as a junior. As a senior, she led Pewaukee to a Division 1 sectional final, averaging 14.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 3.0 steals per game for coach Jim Reuter and the Pirates. Amy was among the state leaders in three-point shooting, going 81-for-172 (47.1%). Terrian entered her senior year a three-time WBCA all-state selection. The Michigan State recruit compiled 1,812 points, 457 rebounds, 463 assists, 285 steals, and made 335 three-pointers in her career.
Faith Walder, 5-5, West De Pere
Walder has helped lead the Phantoms to their first WIAA State Tournament appearance since 1978. She averages 19.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.6 steals per game for coach Chris Abaray and the 23-5 Phantoms. Walder, an honorable mention all-state choice last season, has career totals of 1,513 points, 352 rebounds, 351 assists, and 301 steals. Faith is committed to NCAA Division II Northern Michigan.
