The finalists for the top senior wing have been selected. The winner will be announced the week after the state tournament.
Lydia Aalsma, 5-10, Waupun
Aalsma helped the Warriors to a pair of WIAA State Tournament appearances, including taking home the Division 3 state title in 2022. As a senior, Lydia averaged 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest for coach and father, Tim Aalsma, and the 14-12 Warriors. The NCAA Division I University of St. Thomas recruit also made 47 triples. Lydia finished her career with 1,396 points, 553 rebounds, 208 assists, 147 steals, and 172 three-pointers. She is a two-time first-team WBCA all-state pick.
Addison Baumgart, 6-1, Kaukauna
Baumgart tallied 16.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game as a senior for coach Rob Hendrickson and the 14-12 Galloping Ghosts. Addison also shot 62-for-141 from 3-point land (44%). The NCAA Division II Northern Michigan recruit finished her career with 1,334 points, 492 rebounds, 113 assists, 120 steals, and 227 three-pointers.
Makena Christian, 6-0, Hartford
Christian, a finalist for Ms. Basketball, led the Orioles to a trip to the D1 state tournament as a junior and a sectional semifinal appearance as a senior. She earned first-team WBCA all-state as a junior and honorable mention all-state as a sophomore. Christian, a Minnesota recruit, averaged 23.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.9 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game for coach Vinny Daniels and the Orioles, which went 23-4 overall. Makena is on a short list of players with over 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in their career. She ends her career as a top 10 all-time scorer in girls’ basketball history, netting 2,522 points. She also tallied 1,037 rebounds, 265 assists, 259 steals, 136 blocks, and 292 three-pointers.
Megan Johnson, 5-10, West Salem
Johnson, a two-time WBCA all-state pick, led the Panthers to state tournament appearances as a sophomore and junior. As a senior, she averaged 19.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 4.2 steals per contest for coach Mike Malott and the Panthers, which reached a Division 2 sectional final, ending the year with a 22-5 record. Johnson, a D-II Winona State recruit, finishes her career with 1,868 points, 648 rebounds, 217 assists, and 298 steals.
Tierney Madigan, 5-10, Laconia
Madigan has helped lead the Spartans to four WIAA State Tournament appearances, including back-to-back Division 4 state championships. The three-time WBCA all-state selection averages 18.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 3.0 steals per game for coach Chris Morgan and the 24-4 Spartans. Madigan has compiled 1,665 points, 747 rebounds, 319 assists, and 295 steals in her career. Laconia plays Oostburg in a D3 state semifinal.
Peyton Musial, 5-11, Notre Dame
Musial, an honorable mention WBCA all-state choice last season, helped the Tritons to three trips to the WIAA State Tournament, winning two gold balls and one silver. As a senior, Peyton tallied 20.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game for coach Sara Rohde and the Tritons, which ended the year with a 17-9 record. Musial, a Division I UAB recruit, scored 1,487 points in her career.
Jenna Welsch, 5-10, Catholic Memorial
Welsch, a WBCA all-state selection last season, led the Crusaders to Division 3 sectional final appearances as a junior and senior. The UW-La Crosse recruit tallied 15.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.8 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game for coach Bob Wellenstein and the 22-6 Crusaders. Welsch finishes her career with 1,389 points, 768 rebounds, 219 assists, 228 steals, and 104 blocks.
