The finalists for the top senior defender have been selected. The winner will be announced the week after the state tournament.
Telisha Brown, 5-6, G, Kenosha Bradford
Brown helped the Red Devils to a Division 1 sectional final appearance. She is third in the state with 7.4 steals per contest. Telisha also averaged 7.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game, along with 52 three-pointers made for coach Nicole Ferrille and the 25-3 Red Devils. Brown compiled 484 points, 289 rebounds, and 419 steals in her career.
Cali Havlovitz, 5-5, G, Wild Rose
Havlovitz leads the state with 8.8 steals per game. The NCAA Division III Ripon College recruit also tallied 26 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game for coach Brett Brooks and the 19-7 Wildcats. Cali finished her career with 1,591 points, 689 rebounds, 381 assists, and 602 steals.
Torie Neubauer, 6-0, W, Appleton East
Neubauer has helped lead the Patriots to the WIAA State Tournament. The NCAA Division II Minnesota Duluth recruit averages 14.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks per contest for coach Brian Paschen and the Patriots, 19-8 overall heading into their D1 state semifinal versus Kimberly. Torie is also shooting 47-for-119 (39.5%) from 3-point land. Neubauer has compiled 1,155 points, 613 rebounds, 162 assists, 135 steals, and 113 blocks in her career.
Erin Schauer, 5-9, G, Edgewood
Schauer, a WBCA all-state pick last season, has helped the Crusaders to WIAA State Tournament trips the past two seasons, including winning the D3 state title last season. The NCAA Division III St. Olaf College recruit averages 11.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.4 steals per game for WBCA Hall of Fame coach Lora Staveness and the Crusaders, which are 27-1 entering their D2 state semifinal against Rice Lake. Schauer is also shooting 35-for-98 from behind the arc. She has 801 points, 304 rebounds, 157 assists, and 184 steals in her three-year varsity career.
Sarah Shaw, 5-6, G, Assumption
Shaw, a two-time WBCA all-state selection, has helped the Royals reach the WIAA State Tournament for the second time in her career (D5 state runner-up in 2022). She is among the state leaders with 5.8 steals per game. Sarah also tallies 11.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per contest for coach Ryan Klein and the 27-1 Royals, heading into their D5 state semifinal versus Owen-Withee. Shaw has compiled 1,054 points, 359 rebounds, 245 assists, and 499 steals in her career.
Anna Terrian, 5-9, G, Pewaukee
Terrian, an honorable mention WBCA all-state choice last season, helped the Pirates to a Division 1 sectional final as a senior. The Michigan State recruit averaged 11.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.8 steals per game for coach Jim Reuter and the Pirates, which finished the year with a 25-3 record. Anna also connected on 48 of 132 on three-pointers. She helped Pewaukee to three WIAA State Tournament appearances, including taking home the Division 2 state championship during her junior year. Terrain finished her career with 1,089 points, 391 rebounds, 281 assists, 239 steals, and made 181 three-pointers.
Grace Zortman, 5-6, G, Homestead
Zortman helped lead the Highlanders to a Division 1 regional final. She tallied 14.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.4 steals per game for coach Anthony Gries and the 19-7 Highlanders. Grace compiled 1,074 points, 453 rebounds, 204 assists, and 243 steals in her career.
