D4 State Semi-Final Notes: Cuba City and St. Mary Catholic headed to the state title game

Cuba City is headed to the Division 4 state championship game and will look to add another gold ball to its trophy case. 

The Cubans led nearly the entire contest, but it was a battle until the final buzzer, earning a 68-63 victory. 

Cuba City has the most WIAA titles in girls' basketball state history, and will try for its 12th on Saturday. 

They shot 25-for-64 from the floor, 5-for-20 from three, and made 13 of 17 from the charity stripe. 

Four players scored in double figures for the Cubans, led by senior Ella Vosberg, who finished with 28 points and added 11 rebounds. 

Senior Dea Crist tallied 14 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.

Others reaching double figures were senior Olivia Olson, a Milwaukee recruit, and junior Ashley Rowe each chipped in 11 points for the Cubans. Olson led the team with six assists and added six rebounds. 

The Prairie School shot 26-for-72 from the field, 5-for-27 from three, and made six of eight from the free throw line. 

The Hawks were led by senior JJ Barnes, a Marquette recruit, who finished with a game-high 28 points and added 11 rebounds. 

Cuba City will play St. Mary Catholic in the Division 4 state championship game on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. 

St. Mary Catholic will play in its third WIAA state championship game in team history and first since 2009. 

The Zephyrs led by eight points at halftime and went on to defeat Durand-Arkansaw, 58-45, in a Division 4 state semifinal. 

SMC shot 24-for-55 from the floor and went 9-for-15 on free throws. 

Senior Nolie Anderson led SMC with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Fellow senior Emily Vogel, a D-III UW-Eau Claire recruit, added 19 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. 

Durand-Arkansaw shot 17-for-42 from the floor and made eight of 21 from 3-point land. 

The Panthers were led by seniors Emma Hoyt and Chloe Auth, who finished with 16 and 13 points, respectively. 

St. Mary Catholic will face Cuba City in the Division 4 state title game on Saturday at 12:45 p.m.
