D2 State Semi-Final Notes: Edgewood, last year's D3 state champion, will face Wauwatosa East in the title game

Edgewood will try to win its second straight state championship on Saturday after beating Rice Lake, 52-30, in a Division 2 state semifinal at the Resch Center in Green Bay. 

The Crusaders, last year's D3 state champion, led 31-19 at the break and rolled past Rice Lake. 

Edgewood shot 18-for-55 from the floor and made 12 of 15 from the free throw line. Rice Lake was 14-for-55 from the floor and made two of six free throws. Neither team shot the ball very well from three, Edgewood was 4-for-23 and Rice Lake missed all 10 that they attempted.  

Sophomore Anna Miller, who holds a few NCAA Division I offers, led Edgewood with 22 points and six assists, and added six rebounds and two steals. She shot 6-for-14 from the floor and made 10 of 12 from the free throw line. 

Two others reached double figures for the Crusaders, senior Erin Schauer, a D-III St. Olaf recruit, and sophomore Beanie Thompson, who tallied 13 and 11 points, respectively. Thompson also pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds and added two steals. 

Junior Adaline Sheplee, who holds several Division I offers, led Rice Lake with 14 points, and added seven rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Addison Schmidt added 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Warriors. 

Edgewood will meet Wauwatosa East in the Division 2 state championship game on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. 

Wauwatosa East will play in the program's first WIAA state championship since 1981 after defeating West De Pere, 71-58, in a D2 state semifinal. 

The Red Raiders scored the first six points of the game and led by as many as 12 points early, but West De Pere ended the first half strong and led 35-33 at halftime. 

West De Pere had a six-point lead early in the second half before Wauwatosa East went on a run of its own and took back control of the game with a layup by junior Audrey Sellinger, giving them a 45-44 lead with 11:41 left and they led the rest of the way. 

Four players scored in double figures for Tosa East, led by juniors Audrey Sellinger and Emma Close (holds D-I offers), who each posted 19 points. 

Fellow junior Mikaia Litza. who holds D-I offers, finished with 16 points, nine assists, and nine rebounds.  

West De Pere was led by senior Madisyn Berggren, a D-III UW-River Falls recruit, who tallied a game-high 22 points, making four of nine from three. 

Wauwatosa East will meet Edgewood in the Division 2 state championship game on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Tosa East's only state title was in 1981 in Class A.
